its not really irrelevant though...The health authorities should have said the protocols were not good enough; come up with a better plan. They didn't.

Anyway, the whole thing is disappointing. Have a great day

It is not their job to make good hockey tournaments. Its there job to limit the spread of covid in general. They make protocols like quarantine for close contacts. That is what cancelled the tournament. It is also the correct decision from their perspective.

If the IIHF did a proper bubble it would not have come to that. The health authorities did their job based on their mandate. The IIHF failed at protecting the tournament.

Getting a concussion is much worse than getting covid for a young person IMO. Time to cancel hockey.

Also the Omicron variant is probably the best thing that could have happened to this pandemic, mostly just regular cold symptoms for 99 % of people. So the tournament was basically cancelled because someone got the sniffles.

Everyone seems to miss the point. It's not about the kids. It's about who they might infect. And who those people might infect. Eventually someone in that chain will end up in the hospital.

The point is to protect hospitals from flooding over. If that happens then there is a huge risk to any person needing hospitalization for any reason. We aren't out of the woods yet. Omicron may be milder in vaxxed populations but the sheer transmissibility of it means it could very well threaten hospitals that don't have the capacity.

My personal feeling is that the cancellation of the women’s tournament really didn’t factor into canceling the WJHC. I believe the women’s tournament is not a huge money maker, while World Juniors brings lots of money. So it’s not due to the optics of canceling women’s while letting a male tournament proceed.

Well optics and the money involved are two entirely different issues and optics seem to prevail over everything else these days. So really, you haven't given an argument why my (possible) theory is wrong.

First the NHL not going to the olympics and now this. Last couple of weeks have made a lot of people very angry.

So is sitting inside and watching TV. I suggest going outside and enjoying nature (or playing hockey).

If you are in TO just appreciate that you are not under an extreme cold warning like basically all of Western Canada.

Jealous

The POINT is the IIHF and Hockey Canada should have isolated the teams like they isolated the NHL playoffs, including no fans in the building, and we would be watching Canada play Germany tonight. Those MORONS just put them in hotels with everyone else, what the f%^^$% did they expect?

Also, does Sweden win a gold medal with an Asterix?

We’ve all heard the spin. This is nonsense.
Time to accept we have to coexist, get our vaccines and get back to life. This fear of “hospitals being overwhelmed” is the same BS they started with 2 years ago and I ain’t buying it anymore

you said it yourself.."Its there job to limit the spread of covid in general" This includes all activities in Alberta, including this tournament etc

I want a reporter to ask the head of Alberta Health (Hinshaw) if they specifically were 1) ok with the protocols and 2) why wasn't a bubble approved as done before?. All I am saying...The IIHF deserves blame for sure, but I don't they are alone in this..

You are proposing never doing anything ever again. That is what your current stance is if you carry it out to its logical conclusion. I'm not saying covid isn't still a terrible threat to old/fat/unvaccinated people. But just realize that is what you are proposing.

Aside from the places where hospitals were overwhelmed you mean?

It doesn't matter if you buy it or not, or if you are tired of it.

It is fact.

i agree that we have to realize covid is going to be around forever and learn to live with it, but hospitals getting overwhelmed is still very much a legitimate worry given how many people are still not vaccinated and those are the people ending up in the hospital

Imagine. 2 years into a pandemic and some people still doesn't get it.

The point of getting vaccinated is to stop overwhelming hospitals with unvaccinated people, so we can live a normal life and hold events like the WJC.

But it doesn't work if too many people refuse vaccination. And here we are.

Angry about a disease? Blame people who refuse the cure, not the cure itself.

And it is the unvaccinated decimating the system.
