Because you refuse to give any examples. Don’t play the victim now after coming in here and making accusations and acting like people questioning you isn’t warranted.
It's a lot of work to go back and quote messages of people saying they won't take future boosters and that they regret taking the vaccine, and what do I gain from doing that? Do you think I'm lying about these messages?

Yup. The tourney isn't even long. Bubbling them for 2 weeks should be relatively easy. Organizers got greedy, wanted all that gate revenue and didn't want the expenditures that come with bubbling the players and it backfired in their face.
really didn't even need a full-on bubble either. just rent out a couple hotels to house the players

instead, they really doubled down and put the players in hotels with the general public. as stupid as it gets

They're cancelling this tournament to preserve health and minimize risk. Right?

Ok, so now these kids will be dispersed to different leagues playing the same game without them having to be locked down in a hotel like they were at this tournament. Doesn't that present the same risk?
These kids are going to do normal young people things away from the rink like socializing, going out to places where there are crowds etc. as opposed to locking themselves in a basement. Doesn't that present risk?

The bottom line? Unless they lock these kids in their homes and cancel all sports, there is going to be risk. When does it end? I understand that there has to be some level of caution but at some point, this risk is going to have to be managed without shutting things down as the constant solution.

I think this sort of simplistic reasoning fails to take into account that we are at the absolute peak of the most contagious variant.

In all likelihood, the period between December 17 2021 and January 17th 2022 will be the month where there will be a record number of COVID transmissions in the first world.

This tournament was a bad idea from the start and suffered from poor planning as well. But it is also a victim of extremely bad timing. This is the worst time ever to hold this type of event.

I saw quite a few people saying they won't take future boosters and regret taking the vaccine

Don't see the point in calling them out when I wasn't looking to argue, just made a simple observation (which I regret now lol)

What's there to regret? They grow an arm outta their ass or something from it?

This blows.

IIHF blew it doing this in a city that has proven to work and not taking necessary precautions.

My question remains....when do we get back to normal and start treating this like Influenza?

What is the reason to cancel it? All the leagues of all sports and any nations playing all the fkin possible levels but they cancel Junior... okay. Russians must be the leaders, so there won't be taken so stupid decisions ever.

Currently as I type this, in a tiny town in Ontario, there is a hockey tournament going on successfully that is approximately double the size of the world juniors. They have over 500 players + coaches + fans, and all that.
There is no bubble, there is no extreme testing and the tournament is being run 10 times better than this gongshow in Alberta.

I'm not making this up. You can look up hockey tournament, Petrolia Ontario and see that this is the case.

Here in Finland, I could go watch a Liiga game tomorrow. I travelled from my home country, Canada, not far from the WJC, to Finland yesterday. The difference in how I was treated by Finland and my home country was stark. And the part that drives me crazy is how a lot of Canadians don't have any problem with it whatsoever.

Today I learned.

A frustrated selfish hockey fan wants to put health of the players at risk because of one meaningless international tournament. Keep them in the place that is already infested with covid.

They can now go back to their leagues away from the covid-hotel.

To be fair. This is what it is. I've heard of 3 massive outbreaks in the Montreal area that a friend is involved in monitoring. All 3 50 and more people involved. 0 people required any special care, one person consulted at the ER (had a 38ish fever for 3 days and wasn't even admitted and was told take tylenol and stay home) and that's out of 170 people.

Median age was 42, even the 60 plus were fine (16 of them, only 1 developed fever). Our immune systems in a vast majority now recognize and fight the virus accordingly. Omicron is proving that, hence why leagues like the NFL are no longer testing vaccinated players.

Something needs to be done and society needs to accept that this is here to stay, get vaccinated, take care of yourself and be ready.

After the failures of the NHL, IIHF and the hosts of the WJC - watch the usually awful IOC host an amazing tournament without any problems at all in little over a month. Just because.
