If an event such as this were we have the public 80 percent vaccinated and every single player and staff on every single team fully vaccinated doesn't open up the publics eyes that this illness has become nothing more then political positioning and control then we will never know what normal is again......

Today I learned.

A frustrated selfish hockey fan wants to put health of the players at risk because of one meaningless international tournament. Keep them in the place that is already infested with covid.

They can now go back to their leagues away from the covid-hotel.
Putting their health at risk? This is the problem; they are vaccinated, Young and healthy. They aren’t at risk, they aren’t even sick.
We need to get past this “Covid is going to kill us all mentality”. If you are vaccinated you are safe. Everyone that wants a vaccine has one. I’m past caring about the health of a lunatic fringe that won’t get a vaccine. For the rest of us it’s time to use some common sense and get back to living

massive f*ck up by IIHF not holding the tournament in a bubble like last year

this was doomed from the start with the surge in cases we're seeing right now

Yup. The tourney isn't even long. Bubbling them for 2 weeks should be relatively easy. Organizers got greedy, wanted all that gate revenue and didn't want the expenditures that come with bubbling the players and it backfired in their face.

why not ask the players what they want

why are you trying to drag me into this lol, I just asked a simple question

I don't care for these arguments, and I really regret entering this thread thinking that my simple comment wouldn't get me dragged in deeper
I mean you made a claim about all the anti-vaxxers in this thread and have backed none of it up. What did you expect?

Currently as I type this, in a tiny town in Ontario, there is a hockey tournament going on successfully that is approximately double the size of the world juniors. They have over 500 players + coaches + fans, and all that.
There is no bubble, there is no extreme testing and the tournament is being run 10 times better than this gongshow in Alberta.

I'm not making this up. You can look up hockey tournament, Petrolia Ontario and see that this is the case.

IN British Columbia they just cancelled all organized tournaments until Jan 18. Local BCJHL all star game has also been cancelled. IIHF protocols ( or lack of them) are still subject to local health approval. the frustrating thing is this has been 2 years in the making and EDM has hosted a bubble tourney before. How in the world did this fail?
I think the word approval is what I am stuck on. Approval is active. IIHF is subject to local rules. In this case local rules are not more strict then IIHF, so they are somewhat irrelevant.

There are two things here. The close contact quarantine rules that actually caused the tournament to be cancelled. People may disagree with them but they are in line with most countries and international organisations.

The lack of a bubble is the second thing. IIHF should have enforced one. To my knowledge no government enforces them as it is not their place. It was incredibly stupid not to have one.

So many people have it completely wrong.

It's not about control.

It's about extreme aversion to risk and liability.

They would rather piss off a couple million hockey fans and a couple hundred players than have one hockey parent come out with a story about his or her prospect kid developing myocarditis from an infection at the World Juniors.

No surprise, but it's official

I like how they say that they're cancelling it to ensure the health and safety of the participants. Somehow it didn't bother them when the general public were mixing with the players at the hotel at which some members of the public were not wearing masks. Laughable. The new president hasn't gotten off to a good start.

Pretty much. Some of the takes here are yikes. No wonder North America is getting lapped in regards to education.

It's the long game coming to fruition that Republicans started decades ago. Slowly undermine and underfund education, give them "news" channels constantly railing against the universities, scientists, media etc.. and this is what you get.

Absolute insanity people still think like this after 2 years of this farce. You act as if the players are being held hostage at the rinks and have a gun to their head to put their gear on and play. These guys have no symptoms.

Quit being scared of the one outlier one player actually gets symptoms. Christ.

What a f***ing world we live in right now.

Yeah this is totally unbelievable. It’s insanity like this that makes people lose faith in government forever.

Watching Premier League with 70k in the stands right now.

hahahaha did your parents like congratulate you for telling on your siblings or something. This is ultra hilarious.

Your statement shows you're not living in the real world as the hockey players are at 0 risk. They have more risk driving on a highway. Should we shutdown all the highways because a crash happens.

Absolutely mindboggling your opinion goes around without being called out. It's because people are nice and don't want you to feel like a loser. Well buddy, might wanna think a bit more.

I'm not sure why I'm being attacked for simply mentioning that there are anti-vaxxers here. They are literally here, and it's not like I'm offending anyone by saying that. I'm sure they own up to their opinions lol

Not sure why people feel the need to make assumptions about my other opinions on the matter and drag me into their arguments that I don't care about, while insulting my intelligence based on opinions they THINK I have. It's ridiculous. I hope you guys aren't like this in real life

That one player would have been 5 in a week and 25 in two weeks. Especially if they didn't change hotels that already has an epidemic going on.

And I'm ready to play people who are tested negative, but AFAIK the health rules don't allow that ... if you're exposed then you're out.

They should have a) had a proper bubble b) taxi squad with extra 5-7 players

Agree with the latter part, thought now their regular seasons will be the main places where scouts can see them play. At least one tournament isn't defining their career too much.

And I meant that if you keeped them in the same hotel, it's just likely that it'll spread further. Regardless if it's safe to play or not, they should have kept whatever elderly or others away from the players, basically have a proper bubble. Not a friggin fiasco like this.

Yeah sure for the North Americans, Russians, Swedes and Finns.

For all the other kids this was their one and only chance to be on a stage like this. Its an unfortunate reality.
