To be fair. This is what it is. I've heard of 3 massive outbreaks in the Montreal area that a friend is involved in monitoring. All 3 50 and more people involved. 0 people required any special care, one person consulted at the ER (had a 38ish fever for 3 days and wasn't even admitted and was told take tylenol and stay home) and that's out of 170 people.

Median age was 42, even the 60 plus were fine (16 of them, only 1 developed fever). Our immune systems in a vast majority now recognize and fight the virus accordingly. Omicron is proving that, hence why leagues like the NFL are no longer testing vaccinated players.

Something needs to be done and society needs to accept that this is here to stay, get vaccinated, take care of yourself and be ready.
Sure, sounds really awesome, really.

I'm just sure IIHF isn't the 1st one to move on playing asymtomatic or exposed players, let's wait NFL or maybe NBA to do that. Then we can see in that lab what happens when they play. All while we know that even hitting is dangerous and can lead to permanent damage.

Why did it take place in Canada in the first place?
Because that is where the tournament is most profitable. Or, in an American city that can rely on Canadian tourism like Buffalo. What North American's are willing to accept for ticket prices is generally much higher than what the countries where Hockey is popular is Europe will. Secondly, there other biggest money maker is airing on TSN, so game times that are favorable to EST viewers is also preferable (hence why Canada plays at 5 mt).

It's funny that those who don't give a damn about the virus are immune to it. Unfortunately that doesn't hold true to Government overreach and lockdowns.

Whatever, dude. Remind me of all those people who railed against the vaccine, lockdowns, etc. only to DIE of COVID.

Finnish coach Pennanen summed this up well "It wasn't Covid fault, it was organizers fault". He also mentioned that they tried to help the organizers, but they weren't listened.

Another quote "Organizers found their morale when Canadian team got here late, we tried to ask that what's going on but they never gave any answer". What an amateur shitshow.
of course it's the organizers fault

why are they putting teams in hotels with the general public? all they had to do was reserve a couple hotels to house the teams. didn't even need a full on bubble like last year

Feel for all the kids who went through all this BS to represent their country. They aren't paid millionaires like the pros and for many this tournament would have been the highlight of their sporting careers.

Poor job by the IIHF and Hockey Canada organizing it. With the broadcasting money and ticket prices they were gouging fans on you would think they could spring for a hotel bubble. It's Edmonton and Red Deer for christsake, not Dubai.

Oh you're right, infected people should be just out in the streets infecting everyone else. Working out well for you.

Or, and I might be crazy, they could be left to quarantine in their homes. Forced detention in quarantine facilities is what I am talking about.

I think this sort of simplistic reasoning fails to take into account that we are at the absolute peak of the most contagious variant.

In all likelihood, the period between December 17 2021 and January 17th 2022 will be the month where there will be a record number of COVID transmissions in the first world.

This tournament was a bad idea from the start and suffered from poor planning as well. But it is also a victim of extremely bad timing. This is the worst time ever to hold this type of event.

That doesn't change my point about these kids being dispersed to different leagues in the current Peak Omicron climate and doing the usual young people interactions away from the rink in the current Omicron Climate so I don't see how cancelling this tournament is designed to "protect their health and minimize risk" when there will be equal or more risk in anything else they do in life.

I do agree about the poor planning. I know that Omicron is fairly novel but the contragious nature of this has been known for about a month now if not more I believe so they had time to completely bubble off this tournament or move it to the U.S. for lesser restrictions. I know that planning these things take time but there should have been a Plan B and Plan C in place outside of cancelling the whole damn thing.

Dude, you can't type what you initially said and expect people not to call you on it? Don't play the victim here.

"SO MANY ANTI VAXXERS IN HERE"
*Gets called out to explain who they were*
"DO YOU NOT SEE THE ANTI VAXXERS?"
*No, do you have an example"
"I DON'T KNOW WHY PEOPLE ARE ARGUING WITH ME!?"
I'm not playing the victim. I guess I just don't take this topic as seriously as other people, which is why I thought I could make a comment like that without having to drag myself into the argument. I didn't think I made a controversial claim either, but based on everyone's reactions I guess it was. Oh well. Now I know for next time

If you can't engage then don't bother responding. How is a slur specifically attacking a white female stereotype not racist/sexist.

Let me hold your hand.
Slur targeted towards persons race -> racist
Slur targeted towards someones gender-> sexist

This isn't rocket science.
You do realize that anybody can be a Karen right? Man, woman, any race. It's not a white suburban woman, it's a mentality.
