WC: 2022 Women's World Championships

I realy hope sweden find a way to give the women salarys they can live on. Must suck to have to work on a regular job and try to be a elit atlete at the same time.

More I see it, more I think that was a very stoppable shot. 2 bad plays in a row for Finland unfortunately.

The "drama" on finnish team is like bigbrother meets temptation island level, some people were complaining that womens ice hockey doesn't get the media exposure that mens do, well this is a way to fix it! Next year maybe we should do a "national team island" and let people vote players out by text messages. Truly a insanely professional feeling when the teams best player of the team leaves for her buddys wedding in the middle of the tournament because "we lose anyway", then the goalie tweets a thinly veiled "f***you" tweet about it. Then the goalie in question gets kicked off the lineup and all kinds of wannabe reporters come out of the woodworks giving their opinions about the case.

All in all, just put a f***ing camera in the locker room next year and call it a "don't understand why aren't taken seriously 2023" 100% a hit show on netflix.

These things actually happened in case someone is wondering.

Not surprised we lost after all the drama. All credit to Czechs though, looks like they have been a difficult opponent for us anyways so good luck in semis.

I just don't get it. Hiirikoski is 35. She's played in countless tournaments. How does she make a mistake like that?

The whole sequence makes no sense... the giveaway.. then she skates towards her goalie instead of our Czech girl (who isn't a scorer)... then the weak shot goes in. Even the angle where she picked the giveaway up from... she wasn't really in a position to score. All this after a third period where the Finn's were dominating. I'm willing to say it was a fluke tbh.

Nice little dig at Finland from the power rankings.lol

Lmao love it. I hate whats happening with our women's hockey team. People are just destroying it and people feel awful on the team.
Hopefully it all resolves quick... don't want the program to go like Sweden's did a few years ago!

Perhaps total hit in the rock bottom would be that hard and heavy kick straight in the ass
what entire Finnish women hockey desperately needs.

Personally i couldn't care less of Finnish women hockey.
But if / when there truly is some goddamn kiss my ass club or sauna club

I looked it up. It was actually allowed at exactly one tournament: the 1990 IIHF world championships, and disallowed afterwards in international hockey.
The Canadians and Americans were knocking everyone else into the cheap seats during that tournament, giving them an even bigger advantage than they already had.

Also, Canada had the worst uniforms in the history of ever (the players hated them too).

Hopefully not. Finland has built a really good program there and their U18 program is doing good too. They have a former Team Finland goalie as the GM in Tuula Puputti who should be a good advocate for the players. However it's definitely concerning when the Federation takes the side of the coach over their HHOF goalie in Noora Raty keeping her off the Olympic team. Now they're feuding with the 2nd/3rd best goalie the Finnish women's side has seen? It's odd and certainly worth keeping an eye on.

Just a comedy of errors from Jenni Hiirikoski to Anni Keisala. This has been a weird tournament for Keisala whose had a lot of good moments and then a lot of mental lapses that are concerning such as right here. Choosing to go into the RVH with the player that far out and then not even being up against the post properly. Didn't really make Tejralová work for a great goal. It was a good shot so credit there but Keisala has to have that.

A huge shame this widely wasn't available for all fans to watch because this is a huge moment in the game. We've had Finland for the last ~5 years really be a potential upset threat to Canada/USA. They honestly got robbed of Gold in 2019. Now the Czechs are about to join that tier. Group A next year should be the most competitive we've ever seen it. This is a huge moment for the women's game. A young up-and-coming team breaking into Group A. They have one 30yo on the whole team. This is an exciting time in the game.

I said it above and agree with you.. I want Sweden back! Japan continually improving too. But I also want 2 pools to split them up... Canada and US pool.

I would like to see the level of play of all nations improve to the point where we don’t need a format like this anymore to prevent blowouts. I’m pretty sure you and I are wishing for the same thing.

I think we're getting there. Might take a few more tournaments but if one other team can get to the level of Finland/Czechia at least there will be good reason to mix up the groups. Japan is in a weird spot where half their roster is new so it's a tough tournament for them not to mention missing their star goalie. Future tournaments will be a better deciding factor. Fingers crossed the Swedes are on the up and up. The SDHL is receiving more investment and with the import talent there it allows the Swedish players a bar to reach. It's all exciting to see this happen.
