WC: 2022 Women's World Championships

If @Czechboy and I agreed any more and were kinder to each other in this thread and the WJC thread (and possibly in the past), our next post to each other might be a marriage proposal.
It would never work anyway, you would wake up one morning and he'd pop this one on you.

"well honey, we're moving to Fairbanks!!"

I thought I might watch a bit of the first semifinal this morning.

*checks score*

Perhaps not.

Congrats to US. No surprise here .. they are much better. Hopefully no injuries and ladies are fresh for bronze matchup against swiss tomorrow! For us that is the gold game and a chance to make some history.

I intentionally didn't post during the game. I also not-so-intentionally had a very rough night for personal reasons and slept through much of the game because I stayed up late.

I'm sorry it had to be so bad.

The Semi's probably won't be very competitive but the placement games sure were...

Japan beat Sweden 5-4
Finn's need OT to beat Hungary 3-2

Again, 3 to 8 has never been more competitive. Not much seperating all of them.

I'm really surprised by that 3-2 game, I think this year is a bit of an outlier, the Finnish womens team just had bad mojo surrounding them this year.

Good luck to both... I assumed Czech ladies would be in that 5th place game.. makes a big difference! B pool isn't even televised!

Ironic as these two could lineup for a quarter next year assuming Finn's finish 3rd in Pool A and Japan wins Pool B.

One thing that is somewhat interesting with the women's tournament compared to the men's is a sense of consistency. The men's tournament, at least in recent decades, is just a case of seeing who shows up, with the women you can see continuity regarding line combinations, pairings, powerplay units and such.

Excited for tomorrow! Bronze is huge opportunity for Czech ladies. Gold medal match will be great. I think Canada will make it much closer and am guessing an OT coming up. No idea who wins either game. Czech vs Swiss should be very close as we are rising a bit and Swiss are traditionally better than us.

Big thing for the Czechs will be taking the disappointment of getting blown away in the semi's and pushing it aside to get excited for Bronze. MacLeod and co have a tough job ahead of them. If they show up, they'll beat Switzerland and we'll witness history.

Funny enough my cousin I'd the assistant coach of that team. Though I come in here to see how things are going

Why is Finland playing meaningless games after they were out of medal contention? First a meaningless game against Hungary and tomorrow a meaningless game against Japan. I don't think that the players will find full motivation for such games.

Placement games to see who ends up in Pool A next year. They always play for the 5th spot.

Okay it actually makes sense then. Maybe the Finnish women's team want to go to the B division so they get home advantage next tournament just like the Czechs got against Finland lol. I'm just kidding, but it did help the Czechs a bit that Finland had to move over to the arena of the Czech's. Overall it's good for women's hockey that upsets like that happen. Finland's maximum would've been bronze anyways.

I would be more concerned if that was their full motivation in the earlier games of the tournament.

Japan beats Finland 1 - 0 on shootout.
Looks at shot totals.
61 - 16 for Finland.
WTF.

So Finland is in the B pool next year.

They've made every quarter since 1990 and end up in B pool. Must not be a points system.

So they won't be well televised and then will be a nightmare quarterfinal opponent. This is a big development.

Congrats to japan... They had several OT games and this is their best result ever.

Good Czech start. Nice PP goal. Swiss scored on their powerplay (first shot).

We scored at the end of another swiss PP on a pass that had eyes.lol.

2-1. 2 more periods. Been a good game

4-1 Czechs.

Shots are 19 to 4.

Swiss will need to turn it up and show their quality as period 2 has not gone well for them unfortunately.
