GDT: 2022 WJC Gold Medal Game FIN vs CAN 6pm MT, 8pm ET 2022-08-20

In January the two best teams will return to the Gold Medal Game.

Canada and USA. A North American final, the way it should be! ;)
In the last 10 years there has only been a US vs Canada final twice. It's interesting how some here are trying to create legends that don't exist in reality. Finland showed once again today why this is so.

For what it's worth I believe that Canada had a better hockey team than the USA in the last U20. In a one game winner take all anything can happen and that's why I like a best of 7. The USA certainly deserved to win that game however as they shut Canada down for three periods. I also believe that the Canadian team that could have been put together for this summer version would have been head and shoulders above any other team.

LOL

I always love the ref bias when it comes to Canada. They had by far the best team in the tournament. They had the most players highly ranked before the draft, highest draft picks and will have the highest amount of players having success in the NHL after the tournament.

Every call against Finland was 100% correct, not even a debatable one in the whole bunch but someone it was the refs that won the game. LOL it is so pathetic and unsurprising.

We keep kicking your asses internationally, keep producing the most and best players professionally and yet the BS excuses come up.

Great win, much deserved by the best team in the tournament by far.

f*** Cameron.
This is classic comedown argumenting, by comedown i mean that terror what went through your head when you saw Finland scoring 2-2. Now it's easy to brag after you were an inch away of losing.

India is producing more money than Canada, just because they have more people living there. Canada is producing the most but also wasting the most, otherwise NHL top-20 scorers would be only Canadians.

Give Sweden and Finland even double the amount of junior players what we have currently and only thing you'd celebrate is a bronze medal.

I don't know if it's just me but Bedard was such a puck hog at times. I have never really watched him before this tournament but is he known for that? I also noticed he made a ton of mistakes in the defensive zone all tourny long.

Had family commitments so had to record it and watch.

Wow what a game! The pace and energy was great in the first 2 periods and in turn was blown out of the water in the 3rd. Then the excitement of overtime was absolutely f'ing crazy.

Now i want to say I am proud of team Canada for pulling it off, and I am, but without hesitation i can guarantee you I would be equally or more proud of my team if i were a team Finland fan. The brutal parade to the penalty box which they handled like champions to kill off and found the strength to send it to overtime should be talked about for the next decade. That's resilience at it's highest level and despite the heartbreak of the moment, it should be looked back on with pride.

Great show boys, great show.

To those who didn't watch, you missed a classic. :(

I think his agility, and instinct are fantastic and we all know the shot he has. It's just difficult to compare players across various age groups Also, he probably felt the pressure towards the end of the tournament but got the WIN experience. His defensive game will come with time surely. Not sure if you are trolling :)

Just watched the O.T. on YouTube - hopefully they will NOT take it down.

Miller and Johnson were going INSANE.

You might need to figure out what the definition of trolling is then. lol. Outside of the offensive skill he has, I pointed out the big mistakes he kept doing. Those were my first impressions of him all tourny long. People can't handle constructive criticism nowadays. Anything that is considered negative is "trolling".

Absolute fact is that you've been able to win 4/10 of the last U-20 tournaments with 10 times more hockey players than any other country, so no wonder you're feeling high now.

Yes shocking that in a single game elimination with teenagers we have had some years we don't win. Still won it more than anyone else in our weakest run in years, still have a better overall average finish than anyone else. All done while having by far the most talent missing as well.

The year everyone had their full squads we boat raced every team.

We play best on best and dominate. We produce the best talent year after year after year.

The original point of my post wasn't to crap on everyone else, but if the facts do that for me not my fault. My point was it is laughable that fans try to pretend that the best team constantly wins because of the refs not because they clearly have the best talent.

Not the best year for the big "what if" talk pal. Canada played with more than 10 of its best players not at the tournament and still beat Finland twice, and Finland had every one of its best players. Take away more than 10 of Finland's top players, so no Kemmel or Jarventie or Raty or Puutio plus more and give Canada guys like Drysdale, Power, Sillinger, Jarvis, etc. and it would be a bloodbath. Obviously Finland would have better teams with more players but you have who you have. Can only support the team that is on the ice, not the fantasy team that would exist "if".

My excuses. But yes, I saw him lost a lot of times. No way he is thinking about the opponent's stick but his game in the tournament was based on his line doing the scoring. But I doubt that is where the (future) teams will turn their eyes into it. The risk is there surely.

The US is actually the only major hockey playing country without a gold medal at the mens level in the 21st century. Last coming at the 1980 Olympics and the 1996 World Cup of Hockey.
Technically speaking, the World Championships were hosted as the Olympic tournament during those Olympic years, and before the 1960 Olympics, the US last won a IIHF World Championship in 1933. Kind of crazy if you ask me lol.

Reffing wasn't great today, but congrats to Canada and Canadian fans for being the better team on OT. They capitalized on their chance and Finland didn't, even though it was pretty close to a goal by Finland on the OT, but what a save by McTavish. I would've loved to see Finland's effective PP even once. There were some soft calls and it always happened in favor of Canada.

For me as a fan of Finland, before the game silver wouldn't have felt as bad as it does now. Something tells me that that isn't the last Canada-Finland final in the near future when it comes to international tournaments in U20 & men's tournaments especially. So maybe Finland can get a revenge on the next one. On the positive, at least Finland didn't lose to Sweden in a final. Rather lose to Canada.

What is wrong with it?

Canada was easily the best team in the tournament before the final, but the final was dead even if we look at all game actions. Canada was the better team early and Finland was the better team in the 3rd period when Canada seemed to run out of gass due to their crazy pace early in the game. If the next period would've continued 5on5, I got a good feeling that Finland would've kept playing like that and maybe Finland would've won it. It's frustrating not to see any Finland PP, when that is Finland's biggest strength. I think that they should make that OT 4on4 if they can't do it 5on5... 3on3 is such non hockey way to end games. Better than shootout though.

I had a feeling that Canada would do the winning goal on that play before a stop of play before they would be able to check if that Finland's goal was a goal or not. Finnish players seemed to be confused for a while of that situation and Canada capitalized on it. Finnish players just should've kept playing normally and not let that affect them. I also thought that it was a goal by Finland at first, but clearly it wasn't.

Canadians don't need any Russian rivalry anymore when Finland can perform this well against Canada in the finals on many different levels. There is Canada & USA rivalry and undeniably Canada vs Finland rivalry as well. Canada and Finland finals seem to happen all the time nowadays and they aren't one sided games anymore.

I love ice hockey, sports, all of it.

What I don't enjoy are guys misinterpreting you on purpose. Yeah, for every Brayden Schenn Canada can provide indeed Finland provides 10 Rantanen's, and Sweden some 6-7 Landeskogs.
You said "Finland is certainly #1 in Ice hockey in the world" and are just talking about having mythical duplicates of players which isn't making any sense lol.

You can't be the best in the world without actually having the gold medal pile to back it up.

Well said.

That was amazing. I have watched the McT save 100 times and I cannot believe it stayed out - it doesn't seem possible.
