There were red flags with Berrios even from last season. He was pretty inconsistent from start to start and had a tendency to get absolutely crushed when he didn’t have his A game, which was more often than you’d like for a top starter.

you rather your pitchers have these issues and concerns in may june and early july rather then late august and september. just think so far this season we still havent had a stretch when our hitters are all hitting. or when all 5 starters are rolling. when it does happen we will get on a hell of a roll. but till then patients and take a step back and breathe its a long ass season

So the real question is: If you're in management are you willing to part with someone like a Groshans for a legitimate front end starter if there's a deal to be made?

Manoah is ace material, Gausman even for his bumpy starts still leads the majors in WAR for pitchers. Stripling has been about as good as can be expected, if not a bit better. Kikuchi ain't cutting it and this is working on the assumption Berrios doesn't figure it out.

Not even sure who you'd target.

Frankie Montas would be top of my list. And yes, would trade Groshans.

As much as we riff on Tabler, he's not actually that terrible of an analyst.

When he's not telling you about how this guy is a baseball player/telling stories from nineteen dickety two and focusing on the game aspect..he's actually pretty insightful.

Makes sense given he probably knows quite a bit about pitcher mentality given he was a catcher.

I kinda just find his old man takes kind of endearing at this point.

Tabler was never a catcher. Spent most of his career as a 1B and DH with some OF.

In a unrelated story: the Yankees are currently working on getting no hit in back to back games. Urquidy currently through 6 and a third.

Edit: it's gone.

Question: do you think we have underachieved so far? I think the hype was for this team to have more wins at this point. I sure thought we would have.
Definitely

As an avid Blue Jays fan since their inception, this is one of the most talented teams I've seen in 45 years

..it would be a damn shame if they don't make at least a wild card spot

Coming back to this ...

Buck and Pat - justifiably - take heat for the Brett/Jeter stuff and over-focusing on wins and RBI over newer better stats.

But the job they do in talking about pitch selection/location and strategy and how the pitcher/catcher and hitter are approaching an at-bat and what adjustments are being made is the best I've heard on any MLB broadcast. Like, it's really good. There are a lot of MLB broadcasts that don't mention this at all and watching those to me feels really weird and empty after listening to Jays broadcasts.

They are so good at it. When paired with Shulman, there’s an awesome combination.

I start to wonder if there is something else with Berrios.... drugs, booze, family issues? This is off the charts terrible and while he's always been a tad inconsistent he's now consistently getting blown up. Blitz was bang on with the Brewers hard contact rates... they smoke the ball and Berrios is giving BP.. Bullpen is going to be abused.

The pitching and offense have really flip flopped since the first month or so of the year.

Frustrating that the arms are struggling

Makes you wonder what the Jays would look like if they kept AA and never brought in Shatkins.

Berios has been awful all year. It's certainly normal to be concerned about the hundred million dollar pitcher we just signed in the off season. I'm concerned about both our big free agent pitchers we signed this off season but Berrios has not shown much of anything and is getting worse somehow
