So with the U.S only having to cut two forwards, question I have is this....

Is Declan McDonnell 100% to be one of those two cut?

Based on how the camp is looking so far today. I put the numbers on there so we can start getting used to them. I am happy they let them have high numbers this year.

Berard 21 - Beniers 10 - Coronato 15
Knies 89 - Cooley 18 - Mackie 11
Pastujov 12 - Dickinson 71 - Lucius 28
Slaggert 19 - Savage 20 - Smilanic 96
Mazur 34 - Peterson 13
Likely cuts: James 16 - Declan 27

Sanderson 8 - Hughes 43
Kleven 25 - Faber 14
Truscott 7 - Morrow 23
Kaiser 5 - Moore 2
Likely cuts : Peart 3 - Kelley 26

Commesso 29
Silverstein 31
Mberko 30
Likely cut: Pav 1
Are these the actual lines used in camp or your proposed lines?

Pronman said on his podcast that USAH is a big fan of Silverstein, he expects that he’ll be on the team, and there’s a good chance he’ll be the back up.

Haven't watched Peart outside of his games against the Tommies, but people are raving about him and the stats point to him being a good player in this tournament. Excited to watch him and the rest of the Americans.

It is frustrating that there always needs to be least one coach's boy in the roster when it comes to USA Hockey.

Is the suggestion that Slaggert shouldn't be on the team? I'm not really a fan of his game but he can contribute as a 4th liner here, especially as a returnee.

No, I meant Dominic James. There were more talented guys who should have been there over him. The same story with Savage and then guys like Doan are sitting at home. Especially after losing Bordeleau and Perreault not the smartest thing to do.

Savage is a good player, he's not undeserving. Whether or not he contributes we'll see. I don't really know much at all about James, so we'll see there. USAH has certainly missed the mark with some of their off-the-wall picks before. I'm torn on Doan. I've never been that impressed by him but he does put up points. I've heard he was pretty bad at summer camp, though. Possible he dug himself too deep of a hole to recover from.

Yeah, let's see but I think that sometimes summer camp performances are valued too much. It is summer after all and it does not really matter in December.

Overall this is the team I expected. It's a shame about Perrault and Bordeleau but there's nothing we can do about that. Can this team contend for gold? I think so, but a few players up front are going to have to rise to the occasion as there's no Zegras is this group. I like the defense which should be a strength of the team. Goaltending is a bit of a question mark. Again, no Spencer Knight. Commesso has the pedigree but has had a poor year on a poor team.

James was very noticeable when Duluth played North Dakota last month. Not surprised he made the team.

This is going to be one of our weaker rosters, but I don't think the other teams are without questions. Russia didn't select all their best players. Their defense looks quite weak. Finland is usually the least talented of the big five, and they lost their top center. Sweden might have one of their better teams of recent years, but their team looks very top heavy. I'm not convinced their depth guys are better than ours, so if our top picks outplay their top players, we could have the better team. And while Canada has the best roster on paper, that defense looks really weak for a Canada defense. Outside of Power and the small and unproven Zellweger, I don't think any of those guys make it for Canada in a normal year.

I think this year will be a weaker year than usual for everyone, so while we can complain about our roster, it's not as if the other rosters are so great either. I wouldn't put us any higher than third favorite, but it won't be too big of a surprise if we end up winning.
