WJC: 2022 Team USA Roster Talk

My projection based on some research of where guys are currently playing with their respective teams...I am excited to watch the Minny vs. Michigan series this weekend...

What Leaman will likely do...

Knies - Beniers - Lucius : Knies and Lucius playing well together at Minny...
Pastujov/Cooley - Bordeleau - Mackie : Mackie and Bordeleau playing well together with the elder Pastujov at Michigan..
Cooley/Pastujov/Dickinson/Mazur - Dickinson/Cooley - Coronato : Speedy line with some grit that can finish
Berard/Mazur/Slaggert - Slaggert/Savage - Smilanic : Heavy line that should be tough to play against - This line would more minutes that your common 4th line...
Extra: Savage
Bubble: Mazur/Peterson

We know the top two centers are set, and I feel confident with the wingers here. I could definitely see Pastujov/Cooley interchanging and Cooley slotting in at center, as well. If we want to go with a more defensive forward group Slaggert can move up and Savage moves into the lineup as the fourth center.

Cooley and Savage were two of the top faceoff guys at the U18 WJC. Slaggert doesn't usually play center, but when he did last year at the WJC he was unreal especially in the gold medal game. Leaman loved to use Farinacci for faceoffs last year...

Defense is where it gets tricky with Hughes/Morrow seeming to play on their off side with their respective teams and the chemistry Hughes has with Truscott. Amongst our D we only have 4 combined PPP. 2 for Morrow and 1 each for Sanderson/Hughes. I know Behrens is a strong PP guy...

What they likely will do...

Extra: Truscott

Keeping the chemistry of the bottom two pairing that have been two the best in the NCAA...

We were expecting to see Jacob Perreault on the Team USA roster for the World Juniors. However, he could not get his American passport in time, and is therefore ineligible to play for them. This is a IIHF-sanctioned event, and once you declare a country, you stick with it. He could also play for Canada, but his choice is this one.

Sounds weird that his passport was not figured out if he made that choice. I thought he had both passports already but I guess he did not because he was born in Montreal. Hopefully he sticks with the USA with his little bro and we can see him in future tournaments with senior team.

Our lineup is going to be so agile up front and on the back end that they can tinker until they find what is best by the quarterfinals and hopefully go BACK TO BACK baby! Let me know what y’all think.

Kleven was on the team last year. I doubt he’ll be the 7D.

Also, while I like your line combinations, I really don’t like Coronato on the left and Samoskevich in the right. I feel like Coronato plays in a way where he can line up anywhere and float into good scoring areas, meanwhile Samoskevich is much better starting on the left and cutting inside like how Marner or Panarin play the position.

I agree. Cooley likely moves to center with Pastujov if he can’t go. I’m holding out hope that he just isn’t at camp but is a lock for the squad
 
I don’t care if he’s at the camp. Is he off the team?

No Bordeleau is terrible. Can’t say it any other way. I expected him to be our best player on an already undermanned team talent-wise. I don’t think we can make up the gap with such a key injury.

Trying to build a team without Bordeleau is a challenge. This team was already low on natural talent. Should’ve taken some more skill. There’s no way some of these grinders are better than someone like McGroarty.

Bordeleau would be such a huge loss. Our lineup is significantly weaker without him. Here is what I have come up with if we don’t have him. Let me know what y’all think!

Thats what I was thinking. They add Peart with Behrens out. But why would we need an additional defenseman at the camp more than an additional forward? It made me think Behrens is out completely, and Bordeleau will be back.

Peart is a smart add. Can never have too much speed, and i've heard he is playing well. Maybe Bordeleau has Covid issues?
 
If he's out two weeks with the COVID, it would make him available for December 26. However it's not ideal for him to skip camp and go straight from being sick to playing in a big tourney.
