As I said, Tankov is in, Ivantsov isn't.
Both Ivatsov and Lazutin are interesting snubs. Not because of Tankov. Tankov's size alone explains why he is on the team. The team lacks size big time. It's more because of the other bottom of the grid centers who were picked over Ivantsov and Lazutin.

He's probably not even in the top-5 of biggest snubs.
There is hype. And people tend to forget he is 17. If he would be tearing the VHL apart or at least would look like Yurov at the 4-Nations, he would be on the team. Without it there are 19 year olds who are probably better right now.

No Miroshnichenko??? WTF.

I am not surprised by the Miroshnichenko omission actually nor Kuznetsov and most of the NA guys like Gushkin as I don't feel it is a big miss. By omitting Mintyukov and Chayka though, I think Russia made a mistake not bringing them . You need some D who can provide offense. They picked North American based Russians last season even without the Canada-Russia series and the OHL not playing, strange.

Chayka absolutely should've been on, he's one of the few dmen they have available that has the ability to shutdown the stars in this tournament.

I hope they will keep skipping the CHLers for future tournaments as well.

I can somewhat understand omitting the NA guys in the times of Covid when there's no Russia/CHL series, or travel is difficult to get them into camp. Coaches need to be 100% certain of what they're getting in a player. No guesswork.

But to suggest a full on ban of CHLers is ludicrous.

Fine, I get the different opinion.

It will be interesting to follow. Btw, the U23 law has passed the first reading in Duma today. It will have a direct effect on CHLers.

That I agree with. Time to end these spoiled kids being given everything to just leave without giving anything back.

This law means nothing actually. Another stupid law nobody will care about.

I kind of felt some sort of a logic back then, but here I'm not so sure.
Oh that... yes. I fear that too. That all the people who bashed Bragin with palpable satisfaction will come to realize a concept you don't agree with is better than no concept at all. That's what I feared under Larionov and it was painfully obvious at the last WJC(because "we will reincarnate the soviet game" is not a concept, but a pipe-dream).

Every law is stupid and not cared about until it is implemented. The implementation is 90%, the words on paper less than 10. We'll see how they will implement that.

Didn’t Kuznetsov play more than any D in the WJC last year?

no Chayka and no Kuznetsov is embarrassing.
He did and he was bad at it. Can a player improve in a year. Yes, absolutely? But there was no opportunity for russian coaches this year to follow the players in NA or play them in games. Chayka I get it refused to come to camp in Russia or wasn't released to come. In both cases I totally back the decision to leave him off the roster.

Larionov the Californean was the head coach. At this ooportunity could you remind me of the outcome for that Larionov team?

Guys like Demidov, Tyutnev and Zinchenko are the question marks, not Tankov. Like Atas says, Tankov making it is pretty self-explanatory.
I have the same players on my why are they there list. Note that only one of the three is a SKA player so the usual Riotenberg/SKA conspiracy argument does not work here.
