WJC: 2022 Team Russia roster talk

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
Kind of expected to see Poltapov and Ilya Fedotov on this list, but there is so much depth, so this is not really a surprise that they are not invited.
Both underagers. Maybe they felt the underager quota is done with. They might be there at the next WJC which should have a similarily stacked group of forwards.

I don't understand no Guchschin but it's a strong lineup and looks like they want players closer to the Russian system. Fine by me but that's a blow for Gushschin.

This is a really good lineup, in my opinion. Plenty of scoring threats, and some good D men to balance the offense. Can't wait to see the final product play!

Only players from the Russian system are invited to this training camp. Some players from NA will definitely be called up. Chayka, Kuznetsov, Gushchin, Petrov, Mintyukov claim to be on the final roster.

The players that survive this camp will travel to North America where they'll presumably be joined by the likes of Chayka, Gushchin, Kuznetsov, etc. The final cuts will then be made before the WJC.

Does Alexander Mirzabalayev from the QMJHL get a look in?

Not seen him mentioned but he seems to have decent pedigree with Russia, including U18 and is having a good season.

With his kind of production there are probably 50 guys ahead of him to be considered. Both 2002 born and younger.

Also those guys go to the CHL mostly for exposure. This time they additionally shot themselves in the leg with Canada canceling the Canada Russia Series due to COVID. That was the tournament where the CHL players would get the last look before WJC.

Does Yevgeni Kashnikov have any chance to get in the roster from NA - hes got some history with Russia junior hockey and is a very decent D-man in the Q?

Realistically, no. Mintyukov is rated way higher and he if anything has an outside chance.

I was just asking, not suggesting he should...thought some guys on here would know a lot more than me, no need to be "for who?!" dude.

Sorry, if you think, I was rude, but it was a honest question, because people on this forum usually follow junior hockey. With the whole bunch of kids playing in the KHL/VHL plus Chaika, Mintyukov from CHL, Kashnikov's chances don't look very realistic. Doubt they will even invite him to Canadian part of the camp.

Not to forget Kuznetsov.

Does Arseniy Koromyslov have the potential for first or second pair in the NHL? He doesn't have a name like Chayka, but I still liked EHT and I think he can be a top defender in the KHL, sometimes a stable player for the NHL.

He has everything but skating. His mobility could use some work.
