Rotenberg did not confirm anything, but it looks like Ivan Miroshnichenko´s absence is connected to not-ideal-COVID recovery.
It would be better if he explained the absence in the roster of one of the best defenders of the generation (Chayka).

In your, Chayka is not included in the top-8 defenders of Russia U20? Smirnov, Savikov, Grudinin, etc. are stronger than him?

Could be because Chayka refused at attend the Sochi Open earlier this year. He stayed in N.A. because of the NHL draft; even though it was done virtually. Larionov was not happy about it. He wanted him in camp.

Maybe Zubov only wants players who are 100% committed to the team.:dunno:

“Sacred cow”. The term “holy cow” is an expression of surprise or amazement.
I know. I was taking a small verbal jab at the usual NA dogmatic untouchablity of Gretzky.

I mean the poster wasn't even talking Gretzky' achievements down, just comparing a small part of his game/career and it immediately triggered a protective reaction.

And btw I think the holy cow expression does come from the Hindu background of the cow being sacred.

We do acknowledge the canadian greats of the past. Only to us Gretzky is not The One and not allowed to question. He is one of a few former greats of the game. He sure is the best NHLer ever, but on international stage he had some (very few) equals.

I do agree with you that any mention of Gretzky does sort of bring out an almost reflexive reaction as we just saw happen. But I also think that it’s pretty understandable for people to have that reverence. I, myself have always been a HUGE Gretzky fan, and even to this day I hear people unearthing new, mind blowing stats about the guy.

In fact, I wouild like to know which international stars you would say were on his level? The simple truth is that he was a cut above the competition in just about every international tournament he ever played, with the exception of a couple that came at the very tail end of his career.

You can definitely argue that there is a NA bias in Gretzky’s favour, but I would also say that you might have an anti-Gretzky bias if you didn’t grow up as a guy that watches the NHL, or saw him as the opposition when it came to international competition.

Germany Russia is postponed today, what does this mean for russia's preparation? No games at all? Did they already train together on the ice?

The game against Canada was moved to 23rd, vs. Germany was canceled. They do practice already. The quarantene phase is over.

It looks like Michkov will be on the first line. If I see it right on this vid and the jersey numbers on fhr.ru are correct, its:

Kirsanov (20) blue
Mukhamadullin (27) white
Smirnov (?) green
Michkov white
Yurov (24) blue
Tankov (26) red
Pono (13) blue
Tyutnev (18) blue
blue 29 is not listed on fhr.ru
Zinchenko (11) green
Khusnutdinov (22) white
Svechkov (9) red
Chibrikov (19) red
Grudinin (2) red
Koromyslov (7) blue

And I think at the end Zlodeyev/Guslistov was white too. But its quite difficult to see.

Khus - Zlodeyev/Guslistov - Michkov - white
Svechkov - Tankov - Chibrikov - red
Tyutnev - Pono - Yurov - blue
Zlodeyev (?) - Zinchenko - Pashin (?) - green

Just read this interview Road to World Juniors: Vasily Ponomaryov : News : Kontinental Hockey League (KHL)
pretty much just casual interview but 2 thing caught my eye that were interesting

GK: That sounds good! On to the task at hand. What style of hockey can we expect to see from Russia in a couple of weeks, and how will it contrast with last year’s approach?
VP: It’s going to be fast hockey. We are going to be quicker than usual, I think. We’ll shoot the puck and move forward without turnovers. Last year, we made a lot of passes back—but this year, we will play only north. [Sergei] Zubov is going to be more aggressive. We have to be much better in defense.

GK: Are there any players with whom you’re finding good chemistry?
VP: When I was younger, under 16, 17, 18, I played on a line with Pashin and Tyutnev. We are on the same line and working together as we did before. We won the Hlinka-Gretzky with that line. That past experience is helpful.

looks like Zubov will try to have them play with alot of pace and have them get pucks deep
and from this sounds like Tyutnev Pashin Ponomaryov will be a line i figure in the middle 6

So the return to the old Soviet system of play was a short lived experiment. It’s a shame as it was so unique, but it’s not the type of thing you can properly implement in a single year.

yeah i do agree it would be great to watch but to properly work they would have to implement the U18 team in the MHL like a few years back and practice with them
