I’m pretty unfamiliar with Canadian university hockey, but it seems like the Usports team makes quite a few boneheaded pinches and step ups for hits. Seem to give up a lot of almost odd man rushes due to this. What’s the level like of these guys? Late nhl picks/former good junior players?

Its mostly comprised of the best CHL players that either didn’t get a contract, or guys that wanted to use the tuition the CHL offers for its former players before trying to go pro.

Good first period from these guys, no one stood out in a bad way to me, they looked like the older more experienced team that period. Trying to decide if that goliath Finley is going to be quick enough for the pace of play to merit consideration for a spot on the team or one of the first guys to get cut.

They are surprisingly competitive in this series on an annual basis. Usually they play a very polished, mature game. Most Canadian fans come into these games expecting us to trounce them, only to get a bit of a wake up call.

Sebrango an Zellweger was the best pairing in that period, also noticed Lambos and Cormier make a few plays on their respective pairings. Guenther looked dangerous but for the purposes of this game he doesn't really matter.

Bedard makes some real nifty plays out there. Bourgault also with some beauties.

Bedard, Bourgault, Lapierre all standing out for me so far this period. Some real nice saves from both goaltenders as well.

Initial impressions so far.

Bedard is better than most of the guys out here. He should at least get brought as the 13th and see what happens.

Sebrango-Zellwegger pairing could play as Canada's second pairing a solid amount of minutes and I wouldnt be worried at all. They have a lot of chemistry already it seems and compliment each other's playstyle. Could free up Guhle and Power to play together if they decide they want to do that.

The only other D I really noticed was Lambos. He had a solid showing for sure and was fairly active offensively actually.

Of the energy line guys, I dont think anyone really stuck out from the others drastically but I did seem to notice Cullye a few times making good plays out there.

Guenther looking quite bad, seems like he's killing a lot of plays on that Bedard line.

Bourgault and Lapierre making some great plays together. Mostly noticing Bourgault's stickhandling and passing, although I am an Oilers fan so I may be biased. He's seemed to be the best player this period.

Bedard with a nice attempt off the right circle. His shot is so ridiculous. There's no way he isn't making this team. He's one of the best players out there for sure.
