Elliot Desnoyers doing very solid on the faceoff draws. The left handed defenders on the right side don't seem to be a big issues thus far.

Another beautiful play by Bedard to hold on there and make a nice pass. Kid is so sick.

I’m pretty unfamiliar with Canadian university hockey, but it seems like the Usports team makes quite a few boneheaded pinches and step ups for hits. Seem to give up a lot of almost odd man rushes due to this. What’s the level like of these guys? Late nhl picks/former good junior players?

This USports team is just from the 4 Alberta schools. Previous editions were from all schools in Canada. In 2019, USports won 2-1.

I missed a portion of the 2nd, but I don't like what I've seen from Cuylle - Finley - Dufour at all.

They seem slow, hemmed in their own zone when defending, and can't generate anything in the offensive zone.

Easy cuts imo

Dufour has been their worst forward in this game so far I think. I'm disappointed with Will Cuylle had high expectations with him.

You gotta put Bedard on the team after that showing. Also I get a really good feeling from Zellweger I think he'll play a big role either this or next year maybe both.

After today's game, the forwards I'd like to be official are:

Cole Perfetti - Mason McTavish - Connor Bedard
Jake Neighbours - Kent Johnson/Shane Wright - Dylan Guenther
Xavier Bourgault - Hendrix Lapierre - Mavrik Bourque
Ridly Greig - Ryan Tverberg - Justin Sourdif
Elliot Desnoyers

Well my initial impressions basically stayed the same but got stronger as the game went on.

Bedard is on the team. 3 regulation points then they do an OT to get a look at some guys and he goes out and sets up a goal rpetty much right away. So 4 points on 4 goals total for Canada.

Zellwegger and Sebrango were the clear best pair out there tonight, I think with that showing theyre both on the team. They were better than every other D by a decent gap. I thought Zellwegger got running aruond a little bit in the third for like 2 shifts in a row but he settled it down (I think he was just feeling confident and trying things a bit).

Dont know why people were down on Cullye. He had a couple big hits and was once again the most noticeable of the "evergy" guys.

Second half ot eh game I actually didnt really notice any of the D, not that any were "bad" but Lambos wasnt as noticeable as he was to start. I didnt love Iorio but hes the only righty so who knows what happens there. Based on tonight I think he was my least favourite back there though.

Evangalista made a pretty selfish play on a 4 on 1 that had me shaking my head but thats the only thing I noticed bad about him. He could be a lower line guy

Bedard and Zellwegger stood out for me. I can see why they like Hunt, but overall, the LHD were a blur for me. You could've swapped numbers and i wouldn't have noticed the difference.

I remember liking how Brochu looked during camp last year, so I'm glad to see he's back this year and playing pretty well, from what I see in posts in here.

They are surprisingly competitive in this series on an annual basis. Usually they play a very polished, mature game. Most Canadian fans come into these games expecting us to trounce them, only to get a bit of a wake up call.
Not really surprising though, look at all those guys elite prospect pages and they were solid players in the WHL for the most part, just not NHL prospects.

Initial impressions so far.

Bedard is better than most of the guys out here. He should at least get brought as the 13th and see what happens.

Sebrango-Zellwegger pairing could play as Canada's second pairing a solid amount of minutes and I wouldnt be worried at all. They have a lot of chemistry already it seems and compliment each other's playstyle. Could free up Guhle and Power to play together if they decide they want to do that.

The only other D I really noticed was Lambos. He had a solid showing for sure and was fairly active offensively actually.

Of the energy line guys, I dont think anyone really stuck out from the others drastically but I did seem to notice Cullye a few times making good plays out there.
Cuylle is going to make the team I think, he was apart of that 02 Hlinka team and is a good player, 18 AHL game experience as well.

Cuylle looked best out of the guys who fill the "big guy" archetype. Tverberg was probably the best energy guy based mainly on his first few shifts. If McKenzie is correct and there was room for five forwards (excluding Guenther) from the game last night, I'd have to think that Bedard and Bourgault are two of those spots. Lapierre probably has a spot based on pedigree, though I didn't like his game that much yesterday. Two other spots most likely.

I dont think Hendrix Lapierre makes the team personally. He cracked the Caps line-up only because they were in desperate need for a replacement center to make up for the loss of Backstrom.

Joshua Roy played a great game yesterday, should get some serious consideration.

Lukas Cormier seems to be a neglected quantity to make this team....
From what I see since the start of the season, he should be on this Team.

I would like to know why people pick Bourgault over him.
