The camp starts up tomorrow so the players should be showing up now. The USports games are Saturday and Sunday, so there will probably be intersquad scrimmages in the days before that. Let's hope that the camp doesn't get shut down again.

I’m hoping we will still get Sillinger back from Columbus. WJC + AHL would be the logical move at this point for him IMO.

Yeah, he seems to have bit of a rookie wall. It would be the smart decision. But smarts is not a NHLGM's best attribute. unfortunately.

Watched the Oil Kings play the Ice today. Couple observations:
- Guhle is phenomenal. Rarely left the ice and was a force. Can’t wait to have him manning the blue line for Canada. Power and him on separate pairs isn’t fair. Wasn’t initially sold on him running a PP but no worries now. All situations monster.
- Don’t split Neighbours and Guenther up. Chemistry is very good (although they didn’t score 5v5). Looked dangerous together.
- Cossa is big

Bedard got in one final decent game before heading to camp. I'll have to set a reminder to tune in to TSN SC this week.

There don't seem to be rumblings about that but you're right that it does seem logical. Probably shouldn't expect it though.

Bedard you say? I'm just waiting to hear about Michkov's most recent game as he is the most relevant Bedard related topic for a certain insecure segment. Nothing like a taste of borsch when all you want is some ropa vieja.

Looking forward to Canada's "Pre-Tournament" games... :fight:

Jack Thompson will not be able to attend camp due to COVID outbreak with Sudbury according to Bob McKenzie.

That leaves one right shot dman left in camp and it doesn't sound like a replacement will be named. Totally sane approach.

Maybe the dopes at Hockey Canada have figured we've been in too many Gold Medal Games since 2015 and figured lets just see how stupid we can get before we get our asses kicked.

So Vincent Iorio is basically guaranteed a place on Team Canada that's not a sentence I expected to write. Even if Cameron didn't like Clarke, Cuelemans or Benning it just seems like sheer insanity not to even give any of them a chance to earn a place on the team.

Its completely ridiculous. Even if you don't trust Clarke, you can bring him as the 8th dman to sit in the stands and slot in as the 7th dman with PP duties in the event of injury/underperformance. Getting real sick of the rigid thinking from Hockey Canada.

What are the rules + reg's about CHL suspensions carrying over to the World Juniors? Because McTavish could potentially be looking at a suspension for a hit to the head/5 min major/game misconduct at the end of the Petes/67s game last night.

Well if the OHL isn’t stupid though won’t shoot Hockey Canada in the foot again like they did with MacKenzie Blackwood

Could this just be a similar case as Subban and the 2014 Olympics where casual fans and those just looking at stats cried for Subban to be in the lineup? But with 2-way guys like Doughty, Weber, Keith, etc being able to provide similar offensive updside with a more well rounded game, you would much rather have the bottom pairing minutes being played by less widely known and appreciated players like Bouwmeester, Pietro, and Hamhuis - guys who the coach trusts and are going to play low event hockey and basically just provide rest for our top pairings.

Hockey Canada could think that right now Guhle, Power, Zellweger, etc provide similar enough offensive upside to Clarke that they need to hone in on reliable depth defenceman that the coach can trust to play in all situations. With a smaller selection camp than usual the spots in camp had to be carefully selected on guys who they realistically saw playing for the team and if they have already determined that they had their guys who would play in an offensive role then they might've felt that Clarke's inclusion in camp was unnecessary when the real competition was for the low event bottom pairing minutes.

This is purely speculation as I haven't seen Clarke play since the U-18's and I am not taking into consideration the lack of RD in camp. I just think that people are a lot less likely to watch all the prospects play and get in a habit of relying on boxscores to rank and assess, where if you did that in the NHL you would have no clue how good the Slavin's and prime Vlasics are/were. Hockey Canada on the other hand is watching them all play and I like to think that they are making decisions free of bias other than how they generally want to build a team. Again, I could be way off base and someone who watches Clarke play regularly could say that he isn't playing the riverboat gambler game that I am making it out to be but it's a theory.

No Thompson is going to be really rough. Is it too late to name a replacement in camp?
