I'm a little worried about Cameron's coaching I don't mind physicality but the IIHF refs generally don't like it and we all know penalties can kill in this tournament

How could he have pissed someone at HC off? Or perhaps it’s part of a bigger tiff between HC and the Kings?

I'm not sure how he would have and am not pretending to have any unique insights here. Just speculating like everyone else. Your scenario seems entirely plausible too.

As of yesterday, Quinton Byfield is now out of the no-contact jersey and LA sources are expecting him to get an AHL conditioning assignment in the coming days. Timing wise this all seems to track perfectly for him getting loaned to Canada, though that doesn’t necessarily mean that the Kings actually want to do that, of course.

Teams may be more and more reluctant to send their top prospects playing in the AHL over to the WJC.
Germany is going to be without Lukas Reichel and JJ Peterka this year because of teams being hesitant to covid and injury.

Yes, it’s definitely a riskier commitment than in previous years. We’ll just have to see. I’m by no means counting on seeing Byfield at the tournament, but it would be a nice boost if it happens.

By the way, I particularly feel bad for Reichel who had his WJC opportunity stolen by Covid last year as well.

Feel bad for Germany, we’re now likey playing for relegation when we had a legit chance at getting into the round robin. :thumbd:

Byfield would definitely be a big boost for TC, He would likely dominate like Cozens did last year.

Yes, of course. I definitely do feel bad for Germany. They were the hardest hit country last year, but would actually go on to have their best finish ever. Hopefully, they can show the same resiliency this year and overcome the loss of some key players.

Thoughts on Mavrik Bourque? Kids always been a point producing machine, does he earn a spot? 2g 2a today.

I think he does. He’s been absolutely on fire since returning from his injury. He’s also 19, first rounder, almost made the Stars, AHL experience, Hockey Canada experience, can play anywhere in the lineup. He seems to check all the boxes for what they typically look for.

I expect Bourque will end up with a pretty solid, offensive work load for this team. Perfetti will be the go to offensive guy but after that theyll rely on Bourque as much as anyone

I would be real curious to watch Byfield in another wjc.

I like Byfield a lot. But LA is really playing with fire in my opinion if they send him. He has been injured all year and we all know the public lambasting he has taken the last two years for not lighting the WJC on fire. It could potentially mess with his long-term confidence I feel.

Which worries me a little bit. I didn't really like Perfetti's game last year as he struggled to catch up to and insert himself into the play IMO. He scored some goals but overall I thought he was very ineffective, especially at even strength. He will need to be better this year.

Perfetti needs to play with players who ça skate well, his skating was suspect last year; perhaps a winger with Lapierre or Wright would be a good placement

He's not a player I want to rely on as "the guy" offensively. I don't even think there is that type of guy on this years team, scoring spread out over 4 good lines is what ideally I would like to see.

Hes a year older which makes a big difference in this tourney. Hes got a bunch more experience in pro hockey now. I think youre going to see a different Perfetti than you saw last WJC

The post before this about Perfetti answers this issue nicely. A player in his final year of eligibility becomes the go-to guy, which Byfield wasn’t the last two years. In fact, he was still somehow the youngest guy on the team, despite being a returnee. He SHOULD dominate this year, and though there’s a risk he won’t, the plus you get with a strong performance outweighs the negative if he doesn’t perform, in my books.

Did you happen to catch any of Byfields games with L.A this year? I haven't watched a single Kings game this season and was wondering how he looked.

He has been injured since training camp so he has yet to play a game this season.

This is true for me as well. Perfetti should have done more as an 18 year old last year but he was pretty much a passenger. If he comes and dominates that's great, and he should be better as a 19 year old coming out of the AHL, but rolling over teams with quality depth is the way to go whenever possible.

I agree that rolling 4 lines for scoring is optimal for any team but not sure what more pedigree you would want for a go to player as a 19 year old in this tournament?

Perfetti led his OHL team in scoring as a 16 year old with 74 points including 37 goals, led the Hlinka in scoring setting all time record at the time, led his OHL team in scoring in his draft year finishing with 111 points good for second in the OHL over some other very big names and leads his AHL team in scoring now. Why wouldn't you expect him to be an offensive catalyst and one of the go to guys to rely on.

He probably should have/could have done more last year, just like Byfield, but HC relied on the 19 years olds as always, like Cozens, Krebs, Newhook and McMichael. As an 18 year Cozens was good but not great, Krebs/Newhook didn't make the team and McMichael was decent but more a passenger before all became go too guys as 19 year olds.

I am more than comfortable if Perfetti is a go to guy along with 2-3 other 19 year olds like Johnson and Lapierre amongst one or two others,
