The post before this about Perfetti answers this issue nicely. A player in his final year of eligibility becomes the go-to guy, which Byfield wasn’t the last two years. In fact, he was still somehow the youngest guy on the team, despite being a returnee. He SHOULD dominate this year, and though there’s a risk he won’t, the plus you get with a strong performance outweighs the negative if he doesn’t perform, in my books.

There were a number of 01's on the roster last year that were not "go to" guys, just as there will be 02's on the roster this year that are not go to guys. You don't become a go to guy just because of age, you become it by having great pedigree combined with experience and age and then performing when given the opportunity in the tournament, IMHO

I agree that rolling 4 lines for scoring is optimal for any team but not sure what more pedigree you would want for a go to player as a 19 year old in this tournament?

Perfetti led his OHL team in scoring as a 16 year old with 74 points including 37 goals, led the Hlinka in scoring setting all time record at the time, led his OHL team in scoring in his draft year finishing with 111 points good for second in the OHL over some other very big names and leads his AHL team in scoring now. Why wouldn't you expect him to be an offensive catalyst and one of the go to guys to rely on.

He probably should have/could have done more last year, just like Byfield, but HC relied on the 19 years olds as always, like Cozens, Krebs, Newhook and McMichael. As an 18 year Cozens was good but not great, Krebs/Newhook didn't make the team and McMichael was decent but more a passenger before all became go too guys as 19 year olds.

I am more than comfortable if Perfetti is a go to guy along with 2-3 other 19 year olds like Johnson and Lapierre amongst one or two others,
One of the go to guys sure, not the guy expected to be "the man" the key offensive guy, I just don't think he's that kind of player. I expect him to be good this year but not a huge star in the tournament. If he plays well and is one of our better performers on a good team I'll be satisfied with his play but I don't think looking to him to be our main offensive catalyst is going to end well or should I say I don't think he will meet those expectations. And thankfully if this is a team where they get 4 effective lines going he won't have to.

Those kind of expectations for him are too much IMO, and that is because I think he's a good not great player. Of course this is nothing more then my opinion based on my viewings of his play, will be more then happy to eat crow on this issue if he is lights out.

This team is good enough to make the GMG on the 5th. I replaced Coach Cameron's size fetish 4th. line for what I think should be the 4th. line. (based on the camp invite list)

It's based on how he looked at the tournament. Played at too slow a pace and was probably the least effective forward next to Quinn. Of course he can be one of the guys. I wouldn't look to him to put up a huge performance, just to be one of the top guys on offence. If he does put up a huge performance and the team wins then obviously that's great.

Byfield is a double returnee with a great pedigree. Do you seriously think the team won’t see him as a go to guy???

I love that 2nd line.

I see three players that have played C in the AHL/NHL on that lineup. I would use each of them at C for this tournament but you've only placed one them at C.

Of course Byfield would be one of the go to guys. However, at this point he hasn’t even been released to play and I don’t expect him to be.

Yeah, he is not likely to be there and this year it doesn't bother me so much when a "star" guy isn't released in the case of Byfield. While I have nothing against him, I think just throwing him in there at the last minute with the type of player he is might disrupt chemistry a bit or a lot and I am not sure he has the type of mentality for that situation either. I am o.k this year with just going with what we have already named and start team building.

He's a good player but I don't want tsn making it all about "will Quinton Byfield play?" While a good player it's not like we are talking about a Lindros/ Mcdavid type player.

No one said they were expecting a huge performance. I said he would be a go to guy offensively. I expect him to lead or be near the lead in team scoring and be a leader on and off the ice.I respect your opinion but you are basing it on one 7 game tournament that was a year ago. With his WJC and mens WC experience along with 60 or so pro games an NHL trading camp and preseason, I suspect he has improved since then including his pace. Plenty of 18 year olds haven’t had a big impact but come back the next year and been go to guys. Regardless, this is a wait and see thing and until the tournament is over we won’t know.

Point taken.

I do expect him to be better this year and yes he will be one of the key guys we will be depending on. If he is not, we are probably in some trouble.

I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH THE ROSTER WITH THE EXCEPTION OF 2 PLAYERS AND SOME MINOR LINE CHANGES. WE HAVE VERY SIMILAR LINES, WOW!

Yeah, I'm counting on some Kent Johnson 'magic' as well... but when Button starts predicting things... I start to worry. The guy almost always gets it wrong.

Why is Sebrango a lock for the team? Just because he plays pro?

Hes playing top 4 mins on a solid pro team, has a good history with hockey Canada where he has played good for them in the past, is a really, really good skater and was the last cut from camp last year. Hes also really tough to play against. Most people thought he should have made the team last year based on the camp he had too if you go back and read that thread.

Hard to put a junior player on the team over a guy who has 2 years playing well in the top 4 of a pro team even if he isnt putting up big numbers offensively.
