He's on my radar of players that could sneak their way into an invite but, IMO, its unlikely. Not because of his ability, but because of the traditional way Hockey Canada approaches these situations.

They tend to favour CHL players that have played at U-17, U-18, Hlinka, etc. over college players (unless they are highly touted like Toews, Jost, Newhook, etc.). Carter Savoie couldn't even get an invite to the summer camp after being one of the highest scoring NCAA freshman. To get an invite, I think he'll have to put up pretty absurd numbers over the next few week and "shame" HC into inviting him (similar to Colton Point in 17-18).

And after I say this he has a huge weekend. He’s now the leading U-20 goal scorer in the NCAA. He might just force Hockey Canada’s hand.

Any chance Jack Matier gets a camp invite or potentially even stronger consideration this year? He’s been playing big minutes for Cameron in Ottawa; he’s very mobile for a big man notable more for his sturdy defensive play and has a cannon from the point on the PP.

Any opinions here on Chase Stillman? As a Devils fan I'm pretty biased, but he played well in the last U-18's in a bottom-6 shutdown role, and he's having a good season with Sudbury with 7 goals and 5 assists in 10 games.

Could he be a sleeper to make the team given his history with Team Canada? I think so, but I know the team is gonna be stacked again.

In my view Stillman has been the most impactful player to roll through Ottawa so far this young season (and that includes Shane Wright), so there’s that. Good motor. Nothing like his old man, interestingly. He’s the kind of player with the kind of resume that typically finds himself on Team Canada in some sort of role. He’s deserving of a camp invite imo.

Thanks for the opinion! I’m hyped for the WJC this year, having fans back will be a blast!

Curious if Ben Gaudreau gets a shot in camp? His numbers likely won’t look as strong playing for a poor Sarnia team but he was lights out at the U18 in the spring and looked great in Sharks Dev Camp and the rookie tournament. From a pure upside standpoint he’s right up there with Garand and Lennox if not higher.

Garand is a returnee, Cossa is a top 15 NHL draft pick plus its his final year of eligibility, and Lennox has pedigree for Team Canada and was on their short list of invitees last year and its his final year of eligibility.
You also have Brett Brochu who is having a VERY strong season in goal for London who is very deserving also + its his last year of eligibility.

Gaudreau should be one of the goalies next year, probably even the starter and may get an invite to camp but its unlikely he makes it barring any injurys to the 4 listed above.

Unfortunately politics play a large role in Team Canada selection teams which has Gaudreau on the outside looking inward.

Looks as though Canada cut Perreault one too many times. He's going to lock in with the USA:

Mondial junior : Jacob Perreault risque d'évoluer pour les États-Unis | RDS.ca

Ah yes, I'm angry that I was cut from U18 teams and I think I will have an easier time making the American team, provided that I receive a passport in time. Perreault actually does have a pretty legitimate case to play for USA given that he's mostly played there but you rarely see the reasons so clearly stated. I think that most people figured that was going on when he wasn't on the Canadian summer list and his brother was listed with the younger US team. Perhaps Brisson, Bordeleau, and Perreault can give USA a French Connection line.

He was also cut from U-20 last year. I figured that would be his last straw with HC.

As you mentioned, that'll make 3 sons of Canadian NHLers playing prominent roles on this years USA team. This trend is only going to continue as Canadian NHLers have children playing for American teams.

Perhaps a little more incentive to dig and play a little harder against them in the future, because overall I have not liked how we have competed against them at the WJC of late, they have our number somewhat culminating in that ass kicking last year.

Doesn't sit well, it shouldn't with them either.

He said in the interview that Montréal will always be his home, this is the ball being dropped by hockey Canada

Brisson might be too old actually, but Sanderson is another. Canada isn't perfect on this front either. I find Perreault's case a lot less egregious than various others. I don't really care about the kids of Canadian NHLers playing for USA if they are actually American players... the mercenary approach is not good however.

It isn't on Hockey Canada to select players just because they might be eligible to play for another country.

I'll throw out a team. Assuming that Drysdale, Byfield, and Sillinger are not available.

Perfetti Lapierre Jarvis
Johnson McTavish Foerster
Neighbours Wright Evangelista
Othmann Greig Stillman
Bourgault, C. Savoie

Guhle Clarke
Power Ceulemans
Lambos Sebrango
O’Rourke, Cormier

Garand/Cossa
Gaudreau

Lots of wing options, especially at RW and if Wisdom is available in time, and not a whole lot of RHD options. I'd like to take Gaudreau for some seasoning for 2023. I'm not sure about bringing Bedard yet, he might be better served by continuing to play in his league before he gets a decently sized role next year.

Good to hear about Lapierre and Neighbors hopefully we get Perfetti after that I'll be reasonably happy and optimistic about this team. Not getting my hopes up about Jarvis or Byfield, Sillinger, Jarvis or Drysdale. Not sure what to think about MacTavish

Assuming the guys who are in the NHL stay there and we get Wisdom/McTavish back here is my proposed line-up. Names in bold I consider locks:

Perfetti - Lapierre - Guenther
Johnson - Wright - Wisdom
Greig - McTavish - Foerster

L'Heureux - Desnoyer - Neighbours
extras: Bedard, Stankoven

Power - Clarke
Guhle - Thompson

Hunt - Nelson
Extras: Cormier, O'Rourke

Cossa
Garand

Gaudreau

As always it's a deep forward group to draw from with plenty of good players on the outside looking in. In the end I went with the chemistry of Desnoyer/L'Heureux and expect the fourth line to be an absolute nightmare to play against. Good balance of scoring and two-way play on the rest of the forward group with some chemistry mixed in. Bedard and Stankoven are my extras for a little seasoning in preparation for next year. The defense is really missing Drysdale as the RD pool is quite weak. I have Nelson making it as an underager as result of that. I think the goalies are obvious with Gaudreau being my last pick to get some experience for next year.

What a blow to TC as i think Jacob Perreault maybe the best right winger in this year WJC.
He is a both a creative RIGHT winger who can skates, shoots, stickhandles, and scores, which Canada is lacking this type of player on the international stage.

Wisdom? coming off shoulder surgery. hasn't played a game yet this season and probably won't before camp opens. Despite some built in chemistry with Wright, I wouldn't be counting on him to be all that impactful.

McTavish 2 games back from IR is getting decent TOI - so I doubt he'll be available. Although I'm hoping.

The latest rumours have Wisdom on track to be back for selection camp. If he is (and healthy) he'll make the squad and be one of everyone's favourite players for the tournament imo. The kid is instantly recognizable as the hardest worker on any ice surface and has the offensive touch to go with it as demonstrated by his AHL year last year.

Fair point on McTavish. If he's not available I probably slot Stankoven in as 3C and bring one of Tullio, McLennon, Kerins, Savoie, etc. Really tough year to pick the forwards.

Curious what your squad would look like?

posted it last weekend. scroll through the previous page.

I'm still including all NHL/AHL players except for Stillman. So McTavish was included on my roster, but another week 4-5 games getting 12+ minutes TOI I'll have to slot him in next to Stillman in the unavailable column that's titled NHL GMs are idiots.

I heard the rumors and read the article on Wisdom. Still I don't like bringing players to that tournament who have yet to play a game unless it's a Connor McDavid type of player.

If we have McTavish its an embarrassment of riches. Is there any way that team doesn’t win gold?

Yes. There are a lot of competitive teams in the tournament, but we should be the heavy favorites like usual.

Is there any chance we get Jarvis loaned? Too lazy to look into his games played and situation. What do you guys think the defense looks like? I've watched a bunch of OHL games and O'Rourke has been fantastic every game I watch. I think the top-6 shapes up something like

Guhle-Clarke
Power-Cormier
Lambos-O'Rourke
Ceulemans, Zellwegger
