Interesting about Sillinger. I'm curious about NHL additions as I'm guessing that with the covid situation players need to be released earlier than usual again.

Selection camp opens on December 9, so if there is any quarantine period beforehand we'll likely know in a few weeks if any NHL players will be released.

It's a stupid developmental model to keep an 18 year old 2nd. tier draft pick on a NHL roster. but oh well, NHL GMs are a rather slow bunch. Hopefully it all works out for the player and in 3 years we don't get a rash of "insert name was rushed to the NHL too soon" threads.

Yes I agree, it usually doesn't work out. If Sillinger turns out to be another O'Reilly then good for him and Columbus, but usually these decisions look like short-sighted mistakes in retrospect.

Really hope the covid theatre isn't still in high gear like last year again. They're vaccinated (not that they need to be), young and incredibly healthy athletes. If we're doing "quarantine" and testing now, then I guess we're doing it forever? Sorry for being a tad political, but holy this has to end.

Ryan Tverberg is leading his team with 4 goals and 9 points in 7 games for the University of Connecticut playing a physical style. Depending who gets released and who doesn’t, would he have a chance of making the team if he keeps it up?

He's on my radar of players that could sneak their way into an invite but, IMO, its unlikely. Not because of his ability, but because of the traditional way Hockey Canada approaches these situations.

They tend to favour CHL players that have played at U-17, U-18, Hlinka, etc. over college players (unless they are highly touted like Toews, Jost, Newhook, etc.). Carter Savoie couldn't even get an invite to the summer camp after being one of the highest scoring NCAA freshman. To get an invite, I think he'll have to put up pretty absurd numbers over the next few week and "shame" HC into inviting him (similar to Colton Point in 17-18).

Ya I agree. I also feel like hockey Canada doesn't like the Savoie brothers that much.

Drysdale hasn't had a very good start to the season, he's played in 2 WJHC though so even if sent down can't imagine he will be released.

As much as I want to be thrilled by Bedard at this year's tourney, I'm thinking more like Siberia 2023 will be his tournament. I don't see him beating out players with NHL/AHL games. He has another month to prove me wrong.

As for this year...

Don't know much about RD Jack Thompson, not much Hockey Canada experience other than the 1 U17 tournament, but with Drysdale unlikely to be released, seems like an adequate enough option. I'll always default to a Tampa Bay pick anyway...but if we want to go really young, Ty Nelson is also an option.

This team should be in the gold medal game on Jan. 5. Another Canada v USA matchup.

Good team, though I don't expect Byfield unless the timing is perfect. Team would look really strong with Sanderson and Bordeleau. Too bad about the super series this year, there are a few guys I'd like to see in that context, William Dufour in particular among Quebec guys. I'm looking forward to some healthy goaltending competition between Garland and Cossa and also curious to see, or at least hear, about how Sebrango looks in camp.

Overall the ingredients are there for a good team. Should be a very serious gold medal contender provided things gel nicely.

You mean the two American born kids? Just like every year with Team USA. oh well.

Goaltending looks to be solid. not an issue this year.

Are we going to lose Sebrango to the Cuban NT? My neighbors are Cuban. well, Cuban and Ukrainian... so I'm all for Sebrango making the team. Will expand our pot luck watch party with a few interesting dishes for sure. As much as I like that idea, I still think he's a bit of a long shot to make the final roster.

The two Canadian players who grew up playing hockey in Canada? Yes, them. In Bordeleau's case he's at least following family tradition at this point. Sebrango had a good WJC camp last year and has had some good AHL seasoning. I expect he'll be very competitive at the camp next month, though the left side looks tough for Canada. As long as the best players make it in the end, that's fine.

I think his point was two players who played minor hockey in Canada. Bordeleau would not make the team, but Sanderson would

I understood his point. And Jack and I have had a back and forth on the questions of duals for years. We don't really agree on the issue. As the parent of 2 duals, their decision is their decision, if they ever have to make it. Doesn't matter to me where they grow up or receive their training. They have the option and are free to choose.

Any opinions here on Chase Stillman? As a Devils fan I'm pretty biased, but he played well in the last U-18's in a bottom-6 shutdown role, and he's having a good season with Sudbury with 7 goals and 5 assists in 10 games.

Could he be a sleeper to make the team given his history with Team Canada? I think so, but I know the team is gonna be stacked again.

First rounders with Hockey Canada experience who are having decent years generally get a good look. I'd be surprised if he doesn't get a camp invitation.

Thanks for the reply! I thought as much, let's hope he has a good camp if he gets invited. I could see him having a nice role for Canada, a little bit like Mercer has had the last 2 tournaments. I feel like they're pretty similar when it comes to playing styles.

Jake Anderson already chose to play for team USA at the WJC last year. Bordeleau went through the US NTD progam, so he would want to respresent USA though.

You forgot that Covid Protocol will allow 14 forwards and 8 defenders.

Q BYFIELD = unlikely

M SAVOIE = T00 young

L1 PERFETTI - JOHNSON - JARVIS
L2 C. SAVOIE - LAPIERRE -PERREAULT (Plays well in the AHL)
Energy Line NEIGHBOURS - GREIG - FOERSTER
L3 MCTAVISH - WRIGHT- GUENTHER

OTHER FORWARDS CONSIDERATIONS, It all depends on chemistry and need to rely on the 19 years old as this is a 19 years old tournament. 18 years old and younger will be noticeably slower and weaker.

Sourdif, Bourgeault, Bedard, Foudy.

Is Shane Wright a lock for this year’s team? He will be an older 17 year old (believe he will turn 18 day of the GMG). Gotta imagine that if he isn’t on this year’s team he won’t ever play in it.

He was one of the last cuts for last years team. It would be a pretty big shock if he isn't on the team.

I don't have him on my team, but I feel like Jack Finley will get a good look from Hockey Canada. He is really big, plays down the middle, skates well for a big guy and is 19. Seems like the kind of player they would want on their team in a bottom six role.
