I wouldn't agree with that. I thought Bedard was better in that tournament myself.

I wouldn't agree with that. Bedard played an incredible 3 medal rd. games, really stepped it up in the 1/4 final semis and final. For a double underager it was an impressive 3 game stretch when we needed it most, but the 5 games Wright played, Wright was the better player. If he hadn't missed 2 games he probably is the tournament MVP.

We Can agree to disagree on that and that is fine.

Anyone have any lineup thoughts after the pre-tourney game?

I would probably go with this as a starting point:

Perfetti-Wright-Bedard
Johnson-McT—???
Neighbours-greig-sourdif
???-bourque-bourgault

Wasn’t impressed with the 4th line. They took the 2 most blatant penalties and Guenther was invisible. We don’t really need a physical 2 way 4th line when our 3rd line can do the job better.

mcT and Johnson will carry the second line so why not plug in stankoven or Guenther (if he can pick it up) with them and reunite the Shawinigan boys on the 4th for some extra scoring depth.

If Wright is going to play defence first hockey that is great, he can insulate Bedard and Peretti while they sniff out offense.

Yeah his ceiling doesn't look so high every time I see him play. He is a smart player that as you say is solid all around but he wasn't driving much offensively. Everything on that line went through Perfetti and I thought Bedard read off him better in a much shorter sample and that is why he potted one and looked good.

Everytime I watch him I dont see the flashy stuff some people have began to expect for a first overall type but he comes away with a couple points everytime just about. He plays like a Bergeron type who you also dont notice much out there but is just incredibly effective

WJHC is almost impossible to predict anyway. That's what makes it so fun...

but Canada v USA is generally the most entertaining (aside from last year's final) brand of hockey there is on the international front.
Dude, I predicted that the USA would walk away with that game with them having a 3-1 lead and in total control with four minutes left and I couldn’t even get the win prediction right.

Really thought that third line came as advertised. They certainly seem difficult to play against.

Until you mentioned Guenther, I had completely forgot all about him. Did he play that game? Oh, well, just one bad game though.

McTavish's line is clearly the first line as things stand right now. I agree about the fourth line. If you've got the Greig line set up as it is, and that line looks fine, then you don't really need Desnoyers to centre another line. Bourque did fine on his line so if he stays in that spot it's not the end of the world, but it's probably better to make four threatening lines. Also agree about Guenther, in my limited viewing of him he's never al that noticeable. I'd keep Cuylle on a line with Bouque and Bourgault, then try to figure out which two of Bedard, Guenther, and Stankoven belong in the two open RW spots. I do like Desnoyers staying in the lineup as the thirteenth forward.

One of the main things I'm hoping to see against the Czechs is fewer awkward kinks among the defencemen. There were plenty of blown chances plus the O'Rourke penalty stemming from guys playing on the left side when they are not accustomed to it.

Yeah that 3rd line looked good - I think they will be important.

Quite a demotion for Guenther so far, from 1st line and 1st pp to 4th line and no pp.

Guenther has been somewhat disappointing playing for Canada thus far, he is a great player but can’t seem to put it together internationally. I honestly wouldn’t mind him being benched.

Not sure how to feel about that exhibition game. On the one hand Johnson and MacTavish looked good as well as the Greig line but I'm a little worried about the Perfetti Wright line maybe Bedard should be elevated to replace to Wright to create more offence while Wright could be put on the 4th line to take a more defensive position.

I think it is more likely you see Bedard put onto the wing of Perfetti and Wright. Can't see any scenario they play Bedard as the centre on a top 6 line this year.

I think this team will go as far as McTavish and Johnson are able to take it. Besides those two, who were outstanding last night and should prove to be our offensive leaders, up front I liked what I saw from Neighbours and, to a lesser extent, Greig. Perfetti looked dangerous at times in the offensive zone. The rest of the forwards were largely non-factors. Bedard should undeniably get more ice time, but I'm not sure if he will. Wright is not a #1 center, more of a middle-6 center at this level of competition. Didn't like Guenther, Sourdif, Bourgault, or Desnoyers.

On defence, Power and Zellweger stood out, and Guhle and Cormier were good but that's about it.

You need Bedard in the top-6. You have a player that has one of the best shots in the world at your disposal… and you’re going to sit him because “age”?
You know better Cameron.
