Vlasic seems loath to waive his NMC, based on public comments, so the only way to remove him from the roster would be to buy him out.

However, with limited cap, it makes more sense to buy him out NEXT off season (with hopefully more than $1m bump in cap) than this summer.

Sharks were surprisingly the #2 PK team in the league.

Sharks' players ranked by SH TOI:

Burns, Ferraro, Couture, Bonino, Hertl, Nieto, Cogliano, Megna, Middleton, Karlsson, Balcers, Vlasic, Meloche, Gregor, Chmelvski, Simek, Weatherby, Meier

Even if it made complete sense, SJ couldn't have traded for Fiala anyway without someone coming off the roster. They really don't have much to work with after signing Ferraro and Kahkonen even with Reimer or Hill traded.

Sharks are in limbo until the Kane situation is resolved and or they clear cap some other way.

Don’t know if there’s any legitimacy to this but Sens writer claims at the bottom of article the sharks are a team offering to take on cap dumps for picks in return, lists Zaitsev from the sens.

So we're trying to compete, take on cap dumps, implement youth, and stay loyal to our current guys all at the same time?

What I think is happening is he is misinterpreting from the trade deadline when the sharks, hawks and coyotes were teams looking to be broker cap space teams for picks.

Also no way anyones taking Zaitsev without atleast a mid first coming back

I kind of see the Sharks doing the same thing as last season. They added Bonino, Cogs, Reimer, and Hill. Yes Hill wasn’t perfect by any means but I still think he has a lot of promise (or enough at least) to give him another shot. I could see them adding a middle 6 winger and maybe a 2/3 pair D and trying to reset a bit all under the guise of attempting contention for the normal fan. One thing about last season is we did give a ton of youth a chance. Gregor, Reedy, Bordeleau, Eklund, Chmelevski, Meloche, Merkley, Ferraro, Hatakka, Hill all given a chance at a higher role than they would have been given in the past. You’ll probably see at least 7-8 of those on the roster next season. I think you’ll see guys like Gushchin, Coe, Robins, Wiesblatt, Kniazev, Hatakka and maybe a few others given a bit of an opportunity this season. I know they are all talking about contending but I think it’s more of they are going to take advantage of some guys being sold for cheap or signed in FA.

Basically I’m thinking signing/trading for a Pulju, Bear, Strome, Kubalik or someone like that that’s a bit younger that can grow with the team and then a few more good locker rooms guys.

Garrioch tends to be reliable for Senators associated rumors so I’d consider it legitimate. Tough to see a trade for Zaitsev unless a Burns deal is also being worked on. I’d take Zaitsev and a 2nd for Simek.

That’s not so bad, pick 39 and Zaitsev for Simek. We could then either bury him for 3.375 x 2 or buyout for 2.833 x 2 then .833 x 2

Doubt sharks will go too deep into UFA market. Kane listed as one.

Mikheyev is one I would like to have a lot. Perfect fit for the current roster if the goal is to get more competitive. Nice 2/3 winger with size and skating.

Leafs apparently trying to trade his rights. Hope sharks don’t bite unless it’s for a no name prospect.

Would rather just sign him in a few weeks
If anyone bites it's going to mean he doesn't make it to the Sharks. Usually for a player of his caliber it maybe costs like a 7th or something. Could also expand the deal for something of more substance though with Reimer or Holl with Mikheyev's rights just one piece of the pie.
