Friedman on 32 thoughts says the sharks checked market on Karlsson but his contract makes it almost impossible.

Burns has a lot of interest, people are telling Friedman that several teams are calling on him depending on where he wants to go.

I doubt that Burns would waive to go to Ottawa sadly. While they're building a nice young roster ready to compete for the playoffs, they have no goaltending (Forsberg isn't a sustainable option I don't think given his track record sans a heater last year) and no shot at truly contending. I think Burns would waive for Dallas or Carolina for sure and then potentially maybe someone like Edmonton if they had cap space for him (would require SJ or someone else taking Barrie's money).
So this is my thought on OTT. They actually do have a lot of pieces to contend. I think Norris, Stutzle (damn that hurt), Tkachuk, Debrincat, Batherson is a damn good core up front and Chabot, Burns, Zub, Sanderson is actually a really good top 4. Forsberg has actually been pretty good for the last few years, just been struggling with injuries and things. He finally got some consistency this season. While I wouldn’t say he’s a top end starter by any means, they really only need to get a Reimer type (or great 1B, okay 1A) to have pretty much the goaltending COL had.

Is it a perfect scenario that I think he will 100% waive? Absolutely not but I also don’t think Dallas is either. It’s hard to know who these guys will have on their lists and who they won’t. It’s not like any of these trades will be close to happening but it’s fun to discuss.

Also Kevin Stenlund wasn’t qualified by CBJ. He could fit that tough to play against mold that Grier says he wants. He’d also come in cheap and is only 25. Aube-Kubel same thing but he’s 26.

Burns with some retention for Wyatt Johnson.

I think Ottawa seems like a likely target if Burns will go.

They wanted Deangelo and Klingberg so clearly in the offensive RHD market. We could get Brannstrom back which would be awesome
I doubt Burns would agree to go to Ottawa. I’m sure he would love to go to Dallas be with Pavs.

Just don't see him going there. Even if they want to contend this year, they're so unstable that who knows if they'll want to compete next year or if they'll go firesale mode a la Duchene, Karlsson, etc. again. Ottawa is not the place you waive any NTC protection to go to if you have term left on your deal. Too many unknowns and just overall really spotty organizational leadership with respect to commitment to winning and spending money.

I don’t love getting Brannstrom back. Despite being a lefty, he should be a right sided D. MUCH better on the right. Issue is now we are right back in the same spot as when we moved Burns with three offensive D on the right

Fair enough, he is a good player who really needs a change of scenery and seems like a great buy low candidate for me, but we could always ask for something else

Yeah I do love the player I just don’t know about his fit with Merkley already here. I’d prefer to get a forward like Formenton or a prospect.

But guys, put yourself in Burnzie's perspective here,

1) Ottawa has much better forests and wilderness than San Jose. Maybe Dorion can expedite a hunting license for him too.
2) Ottawa has new blood on defense that he could cannabalize. Not the same old Mario Ferraro or Radim Simek.

He is also from Ontario so maybe being close to family and back in Canada wouldn’t be a negative

That spotty organization part seems to have gotten better the past few months now that the main issue is gone.

Getting a new arena, willing to add potential game changers, and finally showing that there time rebuilding is over.

How do they expect players to commit to us without a coach? Like if you were a free agent, wouldn't you want to know who's system you'd be playing under?

Doesn’t really matter since they have no cap space to sign anyone anyway.
They will clear space when they move Burns, I dont think any higher end player would want to sign here anyway right now so I am not sure it matters.
