Grier

Grier isn’t some clueless dummy. Id hope Drury doesn’t attempt to insult Grier’s intelligence with some garbage offer. I want Kakko if I’m Grier. The thought of adding Puljijarvi and Kakko this off season would be great imo. Especially if we’re able to get both of them without selling off draft capital. I think for Kakko, this years 1st rounder is a given.
That’s a tough sell for me. I like Kakko but I like him as an underrated cheap buy, not a full price acquisition. The sharks need to use their assets for the best value, not the best guy

I kinda honestly would give him a shot to. Team isn’t a contender this year so why not?
If they want tenacious and hard to play against, Labanc will likely be in Grier's doghouse too. If we're taking a step back then you might as well ride out the bad contracts another year.

Yeah, I don't understand the idea of trading for someone closer to a bigger contract. It's almost a lose-lose situation.

Going by what little Grier has said, my guess is that we'll see Reimer, Burns, Bonino, Nieto, Dahlen, and possibly Balcers traded by the end of the season.

I suspect that Simek will be retained and that the Sharks will look for a big defensive-defenseman for the second-pairing (think Dillon, Braun).
Why Balcers? He fits the style Grier speaks of. He can be very tenacious. I wouldn't bet we move Dahlen either. I think he's going to have a breakout year soon. The kid knows how to find the net, and while doesn't have that tenaciousness others have he can still use his IQ to supplement like Pavs did (general comparison).

Also some talk about making trades with NYR and teams calling to try to take advantage of a new gm.

I am a little worried because Drury gave such a ringing endorsement of Grier if he will try to sneak a trade in that isn’t great for us.
I hope not. I think it was Drury genuinely congratulating a friend he's known for decades. GMs are people after all...

Middleton re-signs for 3 years $2.45M AAV. Good for him to get that sort of security for him and his family. Works out well for all parties involved as I think Kahkkonen will sign something similar and be our starting goalie for the next few years.
Hope we can get Kahk for three years instead of 2.

You're not allowed to think a trade happened where someone didn't get fleeced. Not around here, Mister.

Good for Middleton, but the Wild are screwed with their buyout penalties for the next three seasons.
It can only mean they are going to be offloading Dumba or letting him walk in the off-season.

The GM got angry at reporters for asking about it and went on a rant about how much he liked Dumba, so seems unlikely.

Dahlen is useless and should not be qualified.

A player who scores 22 points at over 0.33p/gm is going to get qualified and is far from useless.

He is the only larger-sized contract going to be off-contract at the end of next season. Unless they're going to deplete their forward depth further, I don't see what else they can do.

Since when is 0.3 points per game remotely impressive from a player who brings absolutely nothing else to the table? Dahlen is not NHL material.

It was his rookie season.
His drop-off in production followed a shoulder injury and COVID.

His qualifying offer is $787,500.

He is getting qualified.
He is an arbitration risk. Montreal is not qualifying Rem Pitlick, a rookie who had significantly better numbers and a similar qualifying offer.

Risk of what exactly in arbitration? You can’t speak out of both sides of your mouth. Either his numbers suck or he’s an arbitration risk. Both of those can’t really be true. Pick a lane.

Risk of being awarded more than his qualifying offer which he isn’t worth.

Because as we all know the arbitration process is flawless and always results in a fair award.
Have a look at how many actually go through with arbitration that could be identified as an unfair reward.
Even if, worse case scenario, an arbitrator awards a $1M aav. He would be getting paid $250k more for 1 year (which can be buried in the minors anyway).

I posted this in a trade proposal thread but where would Eklund have been picked if he came out this year? Is there a chance he’s 1oa?
