Gregor upside?

Could he be a 50 point winger who also kills penalties?

If he can improve his finishing in any way he can be hit 15 goals I believe. But he probably maxes out at 40ish in a great situation.

I think Griers first deal is with the Rangers. Was thinking about it today..Does the 11th and Labanc for Kakko make sense value wise? 21 yr old former lottery pick. Might take off in a lineup where he will have a real opportunity to be a super star in Sam Jose.

I don't want to trade 11. But will be doing some deals with Drury for sure. Kakko is really likely now.

Agreed. I also thought this quote was notable,
“I think the team overall needs to get harder to play against. So if we can add a little bit more size on the backend and some size up front, I think it can make us a little bit more difficult to play against”
If we keep the pick at 11, is it reaching to think that Grier and co. may try their best to move up to take a guy like Gauthier? If not him, maybe kick the tires on a Lawson Crouse deal? As unlikely as THAT is, maybe separate deals for Kakko and Crouse? Two young players on their respective teams that could potentially be had for the right collection of assets.

Going by what little Grier has said, my guess is that we'll see Reimer, Burns, Bonino, Nieto, Dahlen, and possibly Balcers traded by the end of the season.

I suspect that Simek will be retained and that the Sharks will look for a big defensive-defenseman for the second-pairing (think Dillon, Braun).

I wonder if we could pull off something like Labanc+Reimer for Puljujaarvi+2nd. I think that's close to fair based. Sorta 1 for 1 on Labanc for Puljujaarvi and then a 2nd for Reimer. Two guys who could use a change of pace getting swapped and we gain another pick for a reliable goalie for Edmonton. Maybe even bait them into a conditional 1st.

I don't really hate this. His deal is awful, but he is still a solid bottom-pairing dman.

The other names I am fine seeing them go, with perhaps a slight hesitation with Dahlen. He definitely wasn't the same player after Covid and his injury, but he showed a lot of promise. If he can show value during the season, I'd love to keep him around.

Simek is overpaid by a million, but I don’t think that deal is so bad you have to ditch him at negative value. Obviously if anyone wants him I’d move him for free, but he’s an NHL caliber dman who brings physicality, which is probably a good 3rd pairing partner for Merkley.

Hopefully Grier can avoid 4 year $2M+ per deals for guys who have 1 proven season next to a superstar. I understand what they were trying to do, they thought they were getting a top 4 guy for a song, but guys from Europe should prove it more than once. Same issue with Melker. Donskoi in contrast was underpaid until he left as a UFA. Barbarov contract is a good example. Maybe he makes the team regret short term by becoming a play driver, but I think it’s unlikely. Much prefer this than $3.5M by 4 or something.

In general I’d prefer that unless someone shows they a cornerstone piece or is willing to take sub-1.5M, I’d rather just look for the next EU UFAs. It and veteran reclamation projects rare the only place outside the draft you can find outsized value.

Any draft day trade predictions? (not including draft pick for draft pick trades)
I'm hoping Reimer to a team in the mid/late 2nd, maybe Detroit at 52 or Washington at 46?
Burns for something? idk
Dahlen for a change of scenery guy?

Mentioned in the Grier GM thread, but Burakovsky and Mikheyev make sense in the tougher to play against and fast/uptempo hockey mold. Both are UFAs. If you're able to move some guys like Labanc, Burns, Reimer, and Vlasic then there is cap space to try and sign those guys. Obviously not as easy to sign a UFA as it is to trade (they have more options and unknown how they feel about SJ), but those are guys that I have had my eye on in this UFA class for almost a year as good fits to play with the Eklund, Bordeleau, Gushchin, Robins, etc. types in the coming years. Lots of skilled slighter framed forwards that could use a space creator with skill.

I would love it if Labanc redeems himself under a new coach. He seemed to be in the dog house constantly under BB’s reign.

With Simek, I think it depends on what return one really sees happening. Reimer's value is probably a late 2nd or early 3rd right now. Hill's is probably a 4th round pick. I'm alright with taking less to get rid of Simek and our three goalie situation even if it just means four mil in cap space is all we're getting back.

Cap. Edmonton can’t afford Labanc.

Yeah that is one of the reasons they are okay with trading Poolparty. They won’t be taking Labanc back
I do think if we switch Labanc to Balcers and switch that pick to like a 4th, it could work. It seems that Edmonton wants an NHL player back in return so now they get 2!

Some talk from Seravelli on the DFO run about the sharks getting back Puljijarvi in the case of an Evander Kane deal if his contract is sent back to the sharks.

I think it makes some sense but also still really hoping to lose his caphit entirely

I think Puljijarvi fits perfectly. I’m willing to bet he realizes his full potential with us. Probably started to feel stifled in Edmonton. I think he gets the chance to really spread his wings offensively in this lineup.

Also some talk about making trades with NYR and teams calling to try to take advantage of a new gm.

I am a little worried because Drury gave such a ringing endorsement of Grier if he will try to sneak a trade in that isn’t great for us.

Grier isn’t some clueless dummy. Id hope Drury doesn’t attempt to insult Grier’s intelligence with some garbage offer. I want Kakko if I’m Grier. The thought of adding Puljijarvi and Kakko this off season would be great imo. Especially if we’re able to get both of them without selling off draft capital. I think for Kakko, this years 1st rounder is a given.
