Alright y’all. Here is my monthly but always wrong hope for the off-season!

1. Mike Grier as GM. Not the flashiest of choices but I’m coming around to giving him a chance as long as they give him the right support.

2. Andrew Brunette as HC. Ryane Clowe or Joe Thornton brought on as assistants to go along with some more experienced additions. Brunette was not given a chance to really implement a system in FLA but his style of play was very reliant on speed and transition which seems to be what DWjr likes in prospects.

3. Keep 11th overall and take Korchinski or Savoie.

4. Trade Reimer for a 2nd. Maybe to the Isles if they lose Varly (65), Canes if they lose Raanta (60), Detroit (52), Caps if they package one of Samsonov or Vanecek for a forward (46). This pick is much harder to guess so I’m going to stick to saying a F unless there’s a faller on D.

THIS IS WHERE IM GOING TO LOSE PEOPLE!

5. Trade Dahlen for Puljujarvi. Puljujarvi has been victim to an absolute slam campaign by the Oilers media. According to some of the Oiler fans (pretty reliable), the specific media claiming these things are the ones that are basically the front office’s mouthpieces. Dahlen gives the Oilers cheap talent while Pulju gives us a different profile than Dahlen which we have too much of in Labanc, Eklund, Barabanov, Dahlen.

6. Trade Burns to Dallas for Radek Faksa, Anton Khudobin, 23 2nd, and Riley Damiani. Burns gets to link back up with PDB and Joe Pavelski and also apparently he owns a farm down there? Dallas gets to replace Klingberg with a guy DeBoer is familiar with and fits his system perfectly. We relocate the cap a bit, get out of Khudobin’s contract next season, pick up a good pick, and a good prospect that I think is pretty underrated.

7. Trade 23 4th for Ethan Bear’s rights. Carolina might be too smart for this but I’d try it anyway. That 4th is cheaper than the offersheets it would take for CAR not to match but heavily rumored Bear is “shopping himself” right now. Bear gives us a bit more of a stable presence than Burns on the right side.

8. Trade Balcers and Simek to a team for whatever

Puljujarvi-Hertl-Eklund
Timo-Couture-Barabanov
Gregor-Bordeleau-Faksa
Damiani-Reedy-Bonino
Nieto, Chmelevski

Knyzhov-EK
Ferraro-Bear
Vlasic-Merkley
Meloche

Kahkonen
Hill

This makes the team younger, faster, and better in transition. Faksa and Reedy can switch as well. The Sharks PP doesn’t really take a hit as you have both EK and Merkley as offensive D on that blue line. That first unit really stays close to the same with Timo, Couture, Hertl, EK all remaining the same but throw in Eklund there and see what he can do. Second unit is a bit different with Puljujarvi, Bordeleau, Barabanov, Merkley and I’d say Reedy to get someone in front of the net but Gregor, Bonino, Faksa all could slide in there. The PK is instantly stronger as Burns was a defensive liability even if his defensive struggles were overstated. Other than Hertl, Couture, and Timo who I’d personally prefer not on the PK but they can play it, you have Faksa, Gregor, Bonino, Reedy in who all played PK last year. I’d have Merkley and EK sit the PK out and the rest of the D out there.

This team is not very good in all honesty. They MIGHT squeak into the playoffs. Although EDM, LAK, and CGY all look like they will take the spots, they are all streaky and inconsistent. We do remain competitive and probably more competitive than last season. The one huge benefit of this team though for those rebuilder folks, one injury to Hertl, Timo, or EK and we bottom out. One of those guys hasn’t played over 56 games since 17-18. Either Merkley takes a HUGE step or when EK gets injured, we suck! Either one should make the rebuilder folks happy!

I like this.

Trying out new guys in Puljujärvi or Bear, and playing our young guns in Eklund and Bordeleau gives you a reason to follow this team to see how they do. I think Pulju can absolutely give us something with a change of scenery and 1st line minutes. I trust Eklund and Bordeleau to go just as we have expected. I would love us to get a good '23 pick, but with our luck we'll never get a Bedard even if we tank.
Losing Burns hurts, because i got a ticket to a game in October, it's been my lifelong dream to see him play but if it's best for the team you go with it.

Seeing how Austin Matthews continues to hang out with Jumbo and how much he loves Patty, I can’t shake the feeling that they are slowly but surely convincing him to go to San Jose when his contract ends.

Won’t happen but would be the funniest thing if they ended up getting him to SJ.
He would fit perfectly.

He wanted to come to SJ but Thornton and Marleau are convincing him otherwise.

Also he is born in San Ramon, close enough to San Jose.

Gregor upside?

Could he be a 50 point winger who also kills penalties?

Seems doubtful, I think a 30 point guy is more realistic.
I concur - he has no finish and no hockey sense. He's fast in a straight line and can be physical, but he doesn't really have much else. Fourth-line speedy energy guy for me, shouldn't play on a third line on a good team save in an emergency.

I think that's just too much inexperience from a FO standpoint. A GM, coach AND two assistants with almost no experience at the job they're hired for seems like a waste. I don't think anyone will give a second for Reimer now. Maybe at the deadline when teams are most desperate, but not now. Too many goalies available. Not really sure with Edmonton would trade JP for Dahlen. Neither can score but at least JP does other things ok.

I think it’s clear the Joe Will will remain as an AGM for the time being especially since we are apparently hiring a first time GM.
Thought that was obvious from the get go and is also a move that I am onboard with. Dude knows more about the organization from a hockey standpoint than anyone right now and deserves to be kept around in that role assuming the chain of command is enforced correctly (i.e. Will isn't looking over the shoulder of Grier all the time or trying to use that experience to veto stuff). See no reason why that should be an issue so I think Will being involved as well as the rumored beefing up of the whole front office is a very positive deal.

Rumors and notes from around the league. Lots of potential goaltending dominoes around the league, and unclear, yet, what the market is. And more.

I'm a bit more skeptical of the arrangement personally but I only really care about results on the ice so I'll hope for the best.

Corey with a whole bunch of potential additions, from the very expensive, to buyer beware.

Could see 11th overall + Merkley or something like that for Debrincat. Would rather use it for a bigger bodied forward, but hard to argue with Debrincat's production over the course of his career to date. Would be a risk with the impending contract talks, but fits the young top 6 forward they'd be willing to move the pick for.

Add Eklund and that still doesn’t approach what Debrincat is worth.

Worth and what they get are totally different thought processes. The rumored package per outlets is the Fiala deal (19th overall and a B prospect). Philly is balking at 5th overall so that puts this package pretty squarely in what leaguewide expectation is for a deal. Obviously just takes one team to overpay, but that's what those smarter than us here expect from a Debrincat deal.

Sharks might move a big contract this year, but right now I'd be surprised if they do so since Grier hasn't had time to explore the market.
