I don't disagree per Athanasiou. I still think it's bad. You can say Trouba didn't directly elbow the guy in the head, but to me, the principle point of contact, essentially, was AA's head. That's my opinion.

Look at it a few more times,

IDK, honestly I still can't see any head impact. To me the head snaps back purely due to the force of the hit, not due to any direct contact. Will just have to agree to disagree on this one.

Did they? Because seems pretty clear that Jones has his arms pressing on the Bergeron's numbers about 4 feet out from the boards. Sure you get some hits from behind where the guy who gets to the puck first turns last second and gets nailed in the numbers but that wasn't the case here.

If it was like international hockey where any contact to head is penalized that would be one thing. But it's not the rule and the initial point of contact is actually Reaves elbow to Hronek's shoulder. I don't see Reaves jump into the hit and his feet were planted/gliding. I thought it was the right call to not penalize the hit. Hronek needs to learn to keep his head up when carrying the puck up ice.

If that hit needs to be removed from the game, than it's time to outlaw open ice hitting, because that was a clean open ice hit.
There is more latitude in that case, in my opinion, than the Truba hit.

Head injuries are going to occur no matter what you do. Even so, if I could, I would penalize hits to the head, intentional or no.

The NHL should do all it can to reduce head injuries. Period.

You're right.

He doesn't hit him directly in the head. The guy's head snaps back from the impact, as you note.

I love clean hits, but the truly devastating ones leave me cold these days. There are a few NHLers I would wish those on, but not many.

I like the kind of hit that's a wow, but not injurious or scary.

It's a fine line. I get it.

The CTE stuff really, really bothers me. The fact -- the fact -- that the rapacious schmuck owners and their "Commissioner" *continue to obfuscate, delay, explain away, cast doubt upon, and deny its existence and awful effects makes me f***ing sick.*

Why? Because they don't want the liability and resultant pay out, that's why.

This should tell you everything you need to know about the character of these owners and their front man.

Sleep well tonight, Gary. You pig f***.

The Kings just sent down Kupari, Fagemo, and Bjornfoot. Arvidsson was injured, and, as the article I read said, Blake is probably just banking cap space, but it is a little odd. They are going home tonight, so I guess it is normal to send down road reinforcements.
Could we interest them in a gently used Craig Smith?

Edit: Probably not a good time as I think Greer is carrying a little injury and Lauko is sick.

How thin up front is Winnipeg right now - Blake Wheeler is out for the next month after groin surgery today so for now they've moved Karson Kuhlman up to the top line. Their top 4 RWers are Kuhlman ( 3 points ), Sam Gagner ( 8 points ), Jansen Harkins ( 4 points ) and Axel Jonsson-Fjallby ( 2 points ). Sweeney should call them and offer up Smith immediately.

Leafs down 3, devils down 2. If these hold up and the Islanders beat Vegas tonight we can gain 2 points on all 3 today.

Despite their long injury list the Jets are 2nd in their division and 7-3 in their last 10 games. They've been pretty impressive. Quietly one of the better teams so far this season.
