Philadelphia's management is godawful. They refuse to add a pick in order to ship out the Van Riemsdyk contract, just days after sending 3 picks to Carolina for defensive horror show/lousy human Tony DeAngelo. Two of those picks would have been enough to get rid of the JVR contract and give them enough money to sign Gaudreau.

Reportedly, Gaudreau contacted the Flyers as soon as free agency opened and said he wanted to play there even if it meant slightly less than he could get on the open market, and Philly essentially said no.

So, in a nutshell, Philly opted for this:
James Van Riemsdyk at $7 million
Tony DeAngelo at $5 million
trading 3 picks

Over this:
Johnny Gaudreau at $9 million
$3 million extra cap room
trading 2 picks

This is just insanity. Sheer insanity.
I would not be surprised if Fletcher had the "Johnny does not fit the Flyers identity" logic.

Saw the same on the TSN coverage on ESPN+. Totally dissed the Vanecek trade as an improvement.
That's just the what have you done for me lately media. Until you win it's all doom and gloom. The TSN panel just talking about the mess in WPG after admitting the same team was their front runner last season. Look at the Pelicans. Trade Zion Williamson to NYK. Move the team. Then they get CJ McCollum who says it's a good team and they go on a nice run to make the playoffs and look good against PHX. Then all of a sudden Willie Green is the hottest young coach in the league, Zion says he can't sign his extension fast enough, and ESPN is singing the praises of the Pelicans. If NJ can push for the playoffs next season the narrative will change. It's that simple.

So let me see if i get this right :

Bratt is apparently holding out after not even one day of FA has completed.

Sounds legit.

not having signed by day 1 of FA is not a hold out

exactly.

I have no idea what @BurntToast is talking about here.

Maybe the fact that Bratt and his agent are playing the waiting game (to see what Gaudreau gets) is what is making him say things like that? I don't know.

That was out of left field.
