He has a lot of prospects still coming up, and some of the failed prospects from end of Holland regime he's trying to make final determinations on and filter out. Not in love with some of these players, but I see Yzerman's thinking here to ensure there's a bridge period with some vets who can help the youngsters develop competitively. I suspect Yzerman will save some cap space over next few years for a big go for gold signing.

If Philly is really out I don't see a reason to be doom and gloom about this unless someone legit said Isles had the inside track.

And again, this might be my homerism talking, but why on earth would he chose the Islanders over the Devils? The Islanders are almost for sure a purgatory team at this point. Not much to speak of in the pipeline either. And if commutability to family is important, LI is a nightmare compared to North Jersey.
