"You get to play with Jack Hughes, Nico Hischier, Jesper Bratt, and Shane Wright/Slafkovsky." That's a huge part of the sales pitch.

Who is Johnny going to play with in Philly? Travis Konecny and JVR? If he's going to PHI he's going to be THE guy with all the pressure and expectations that come from that. I don't know if I'd want to leave the toxic Canadian media just to end up in a hostile fanbase who has no other hope but to constantly dissect every play you make under a microscope.
I agree. Im trying hard to not be biased but NJ appears to be in a way better spot than Philly (especially in the future).
Way better roster IMO with tons more potential available.
Torts would not be the most ideal coach for most players.
Lookig at it logically , I’d say NJ is way>> Philly if lookimg at it strictly from a hockey perspective (minus the “home “ factor )

IF he re-signs there. They took a bit of a risk trading a first-rounder for a guy two years away from FA and Ottawa's not exactly a prime destination that talks you into signing early. That's a risk teams like say, Toronto and Florida should be taking because they're actually closer to winning and have other incentives for players to go there.
Debrincat is in his final season of his deal this year, in six days he can negotiate an extension

It's not weird if you understand how free agency works. If he was locked down for 8 years like Hughes is sure, but he's not. Some of you have clearly only finished a single season of Franchise mode in NHL '22 and use that expertise to make your judgments.
If you can’t resign your player after two years being on the roster then this franchise has major issues so no I would not be worried about him leaving in two years!

I wonder if he and Dougie are friends from Calgary. Dougie could be a big boost here

DeBrincat is 24, how is he going to be approaching 30 in two seasons? The contract status is certainly a risk, but with a winning team and extended negotiating runway, Ottawa is in a great position to lock him up long term.

A true win now deal is acquiring someone like Gaudreau or JT Miller. This isn’t it.

He won't be in two seasons, but he will be in four, which is when the 7OA could start contributing.

Yep. Just going to rebuild for another 10 years, no biggie.
I’m a Slafkovsky fan, but those acting like it’s a slam dunk pick at #2 are out to lunch. There is massive risk with that pick. I’m praying he can turn into Kopitar, but I’ll be the first to admit that it’s a gamble.

Welp.... Nobody is forcing you to watch, you know? :dunno:

I don't think we'll be rebuilding for another 10 years.

If the Devils had any semblance of Goaltending last season, they'd be a bubble team that could have snuck into the playoffs.

If that is fixed, things will be looking up.

Well the defense and Powerplay also sucked ass but thankfully that will improve too(becuase it really can’t get worse)

That's my biggest issue. In a weak draft, where scouts are undecided on lots of things. Slafkovsky can be VERY good, he can also be VERY bad. We CANNOT miss with this pick, and Cat is a proven 40 goal scorer, and we have one of the best young centers in the game. How do we not pair them together. He's 24 for crying out loud, he's not 34.
