ah well

i wonder if they would've bit for the 2023 1st from us (doubt it though)

7OA is a pretty good pick for the hawks -- guessing they'll end up with Kasper or one of the remaining dmen (if they're there)

Again, look at any of those giant free agent contracts. Tavares, Parise, etc. Every team winds up regretting them after a couple of years. Time is undefeated when you’re on the wrong side of 30, especially for forwards with a huge cap hit.

i mean the leafs are a legit cup contender so they aren't really hurting that bad. parise went to a bad wild team and made them better.

So, what I can tell from in here is that:

Debrincat is too small and expensive
Gaudreau is too old, small and expensive
Wright is too young and too center
Slav is too young

Angry if we make the pick
Angry if we trade the pick
Angry if we sign someone
Angry if we don’t

Years of losing are making us crazy

I don’t remember the blatant FA tampering via media members ever being this bad.
All the agents saw Adam Schefter as a literal mouthpiece for NFL agents and figured they might as well get in on the action

Just picks. We should have been all over this

Agreed, I'm still not as convinced that we are a lock for Gaudreau and even if we do end up with Slaf, we would be ecstatic for him to be as productive as we know DeBrincat can be.

I think Gaudreau is an exception. Like how P Kane is. Producing well into his 30’s .

They're just bad comparisons to make lol. Parise obviously wasn't going to age well. Said it at the time. Tavares is still a great player and has gotten so underrated. What about Stamkos (granted younger when signed)? He didn't make it to UFA but if he did he'd be going into year 7 of a 7 year deal likely at like 10 mil. He's been worth that deal so far. I could see Gaudreau having a Kane, or Whitney, or Oates type impact into his mid 30s with the game he plays.

If you can't get him inked long term it's not worth it though.

you can't be scared of not resigning your own players. chances of debincat signing there as a ufa is probably 0% chances of him resigning there now? probably a hell of a lot better.

We just assume that it’s the wrong decision no matter what we do. After 10 years I get it

Probably yes, probably no

Makar went 4. Not sure what that has to do with the 2nd overall pick this year, other than to prove the point that picking high in a year without clear cut talents is a crapshoot.
How are you not sure what it has to do with anything? He was in play for number 1 reportedly. You run the risk of missing a player like that moving a top pick. Something you aren’t acknowledging.

Problem is analytics types value Pick#2 a lot more than Pick 7. If the Devils had 5-6 I think they would have done it. For example, look at Dom from the Athletc's model. Picks 2 and 7 have a large difference in value.

That explains a lot

That doesn’t seem to make sense for either team nor Debrincat. All parties should have wanted some discussion unless Chicago thinks Debrincat is going to be firm about wanting something short to take him right to UFA.

#2 pick is worth 727 points according to some internet draft pick value charts.

#7 is worth 419 & #39 is worth 97

NJ would have been paying a lot more to get him than Ottawa paid.
