I would take DeBrincat over Johnny. Younger and a finisher. Johnny is amazing at driving play but we already excel at that, we need goal scorers and DeBrincat has been one of the top-10 goal scorers in hockey since he entered the league.

The question of whether it's better to pay assets for Cat and get Johnny for just cap space is a different question entirely.
I agree with ya. If both were UFA (no asstets needed ) I’d lean Cat bery slightly , but all things considered , I take Johhny with the zero assets given up

The more I think about this the more my intuition tells me that if Slaf is picked by the Habs we should draft Nemec instead.
Not only does Nemec fill a desperate position of need but he is not really that much of a reach at pick #2.
How much more of an impact can Wright have over Nemec?
We have stood by patiently waiting to build this team the right way and I feel as if drafting Wright deviates from our plan. He is not a bad fit, he is just not the right fit over Nemec imo.
The team had no trouble scoring last season. Our defense and crappy goaltending is what lost us games.

Rich get richer
Not at all.

But

I'm sure there's one guy who would agree with you

I thought this was an interesting possibility:

Our bottom 6 was atrocious last year and again, this team's defense was not bad last year. By most metrics, we were average at most things defensively. Your defense is going to look bad if wrist shots from the blue line are going in and goals are going 5 hole on your goaltenders.

Honestly, I don't think the Rangers give two shits about who is in goal for them behind Igor, unless they're worried about him playing 65-70 games or playing as effectively while playing that number of games.

If your priority is fit and you think defense is an issue then why are you taking the offensive Dman with shoddy defense? Jiricek’s better.

I said that before. Can’t believe I’m now wishing for Slaf lol
