Hmmm

I actually only found out about it 90 seconds ago, as I was too busy typing up another one of my anti-Blackwood posts and how the suggested Allen-Blackwood tandem ensures a non-playoff finish, barring a top-5 best offense in the league.

Honestly? I like it better than Husso, ESPECIALLY at the price Husso just got.

He needs to be given a chance to be the starter. In fact, he NEEDS to be given the FIRST CRACK at starter this year. Blackwood has done nothing in the last two seasons to get first dibs. Right from his last game of the season, which was an embarrassment and one of his worst games of the entire season.

This could go either way, but guys are gonna start getting in trouble (I'm really looking at the goalie coach Dave Rogalski here too, Melanson did not need to be fired and Blackwood has performed worse since he's been gone and has his only good NHL seasons under him) and losing jobs if this doesn't work out.

And Ruff needs to pour some cold water on his lap when it comes to Blackwood. I could easily see him going with Blackwood if Vanecek has a bad game or two. If Ruff favors Blackwood then just f***ing BLAST him because it's only gonna happen soon enough anyway. What are they gonna send Kate Madigan down to the bench to babysit him like Shero did by sending Fitzy down there in a desperate attempt at keeping Hynes on life support?

I'm MUCH more happy with Vanecek than Samsonov too. Samsonov has been worse than Blackwood in their careers and hasn't even had a season as good as Blackwood's 19-20. His only good season was 19-20 and that was in a backup role like Blackwood's 18-19 season.

For what it's worth Vanecek fared very well in my percentage of goals stoppable the two years he's been in the league. MUCH better than Samsonov (who was among the worst last year and came close to the stoppable goal Vezina with his late season surge when Laviolette benched Vanecek to play him more) and infinitely better than Blackwood (him, Daws, Gillies, Hammond, all missed out on the stoppable goal Vezina due to not enough games played, so it went to Koskinen instead) and EVERY Devils goalie not named Bernier to play here last year.

Again, please remember that Fitz would have pissed the third-rounder away anyways with a low upside pick whose never going to sniff the NHL in their life. As much as I love mystery boxes, when every single mystery box you pick somehow turns out to have a rock inside, you'd much rather get something you know is not a rock.

I would prefer Kuemper to Campbell by a mile. I'd be willing to pay a lot more than most here as well. But seems likely he's destined for a contender.

I think somehow we're going to end up with Lehner. I hope we don't give any sort of term to Campbell. Just don't think you can trust that you're going to get consistent quality starts out of him.
Kuemper blows

Just make sure we keep Vitek away from the Secaucus Mystery Spot

I'm satisfied with this move, although really this is kicking the can down the road. VV isn't the answer but he's certainly better than what we've had. We will need to revisit G again next offseason but I do feel like I can relax a bit. There weren't a ton of good options this year but Fitz found a way.

Now just trade Zacha for Puljujarvi, trade Johnsson to ARI for a 3rd in 2025, and back up the Brinks truck for Johnny.

I honestly didn’t expect a positive post on this from you on this. Happy Friday to all!

while kuemper and campbell may end up being better this season and next, I don't think it's a slam dunk for them to be drastically better. VV isn't getting paid much this year or next. meanwhile campbell and keumper are looking for at least 5 mil+ for multiple years. I'd much rather use that extra cap space for adding a big time forward

I don't think he blows, but I certainly have pointed out that he may have just had his last really good season and likely falls apart in the next two years. He's already 32 years old and was really not a good goalie until he was about 27-28 years old. Also an injury case.

He didn't do jack shit to help the Avs win the cup. ''He was good when he had to be'' is the stupid bullshit I hear to rationalize his poor play in these playoffs, but that's a total cop out. I think ''He was good when he had to be'' is something that's more appropriate to describe a goalie that played great, but didn't have to stand on his head because the team outplayed the other team/outscored the other team a ton. That should not apply when a goalie plays mediocre at best and wins because of how badly his team outplayed/outscored the other team.

That said, I don't think his poor playoffs is indicative of him being done, but I think due to his age there's a lot of questions regarding him. It is possible whatever happened to his eye also could affect him long term, but the sample size of games he played since injuring it (I think it was only 13?) is too small to say it will continue to go that badly for him. He's just an injury case period. I wouldn't be shocked if he's either terrible or can barely stay on the ice in 2 years from now due to all kinds of injuries.
