I would only be okay if Allen replaced Blackwood and then add another real option. I will lose my mind if that’s the tandem they go with next year.
That could be another tank tandem. I don't see any shot we make the playoffs with that tandem, without being one of the top-5 scoring teams in the league.
There was actually one year (I think?) where Lindy Ruff was in Dallas and they missed the playoffs with the second highest scoring team in the league when they had the FINNISHED Finns in Lehtonen and Niemi manning the crease.
Allen/Blackwood feels a lot like that type of tandem.
The way I see it is that Blackwood has a significantly HIGHER ceiling than Allen, but he also has just as much LOWER of a floor than Allen does.
If you asked me which one had the better chance of being a .915% or better goalie this year, I'd say it's Blackwood by a SIGNIFICANT MARGIN.
If you asked me which one has a better chance of being an .895%-.900% goalie this year, I'd say it's also Blackwood by a SIGNIFICANT MARGIN.
I hope this organization isn't as high on Blackwood as I'm fearing they are. And by having to go with someone like Reimer, Allen, etc, that pretty much means that a Kuemper/Campbell won't outprice keeping Blackwood beyond this year, but if he has one more bad f***in year let him WALK as an RFA. This thing can't go on like the never ending Cory movie. ''Oh, he's gonna bounce back! Did you see his last few games?'' I still believe that only helped get the last GM canned before he probably should have been.
Blackwood's AHL career should be enough of an indicator that Blackwood might not be all that good and that the injuries only made him absolutely UNPLAYABLE last year and that a healthy Blackwood might be merely playable, but just not any good.
That said, once again, Husso for $4.75 million for 3 years is a f***in travesty. Kuemper and Campbell are probably gonna be looking for $7 (and they more than likely won't get THAT MUCH but they'll be asking) if they see a guy like Husso is worth $4.75 million.
