Toronto and Edmonton are going to be ahead of the Devils in line for a goalie too. Like I’ve always said, my one complaint with Fitz is that he’s way too passive. This could be an ugly situation again.
He's nabbed arguably the best 1b goalie the last two off seasons an got royally f***ed both times with the worst luck. I'm not worried about his ability to sign goalies

We're going to be left holding the bag on the goalie front. Picture Fitz in place of Travolta in that meme. Standing there with a bag and can't find anyone to give it to.

In this case though it feels like we're being boxed in due to forces beyond our control. Fitz absolutely wasn't passive the last two offseasons when he jumped on Crawford and Bernier, it's just neither guy worked out and this offseason it looks like we're either gonna have to overpay for junk or take a pass.

I do think Jake Allen is probably the guy to keep an eye on given his connection to Marty.

Right, but if things don’t come to him in free agency he’s not very aggressive about proactively making moves to improve the situation. He refuses to part with assets that have any value to make an impact.

Wouldn’t be shocked to see us trade a spare 4th round pick for Jake Allen and roll with Blackwood/Allen next year.

I hope NJ is offering one of their 3 4th round picks for Kuemper's rights. Possibly might need to offer the 3rd it's getting that desperate.

Yeah .. I think with the dearth of goalie talent out there Fitz needs to be a bit more proactive and secure the best he can get. That Husso deal looks like a huge miss.

If Husso's rights got a third doubt Kuemper's would be any less unless he's not committing to sign, in which case why bother?

By passive I mean that his strategy is essentially to sit back and let things come to him in free agency. At some point you need to move one of your 50 valuable assets to improve a major area of need and kick start your roster. He has shown zero propensity to do that.

Fair, I actually liked that about Shero - at least he tried to do that although people here still hold it against him that he gave away second rounders like candy lol. Then again Fitz did that with Graves last offseason as well.

I would only be okay if Allen replaced Blackwood and then add another real option. I will lose my mind if that’s the tandem they go with next year.

I would prefer Kuemper to Campbell by a mile. I'd be willing to pay a lot more than most here as well. But seems likely he's destined for a contender.

I think somehow we're going to end up with Lehner. I hope we don't give any sort of term to Campbell. Just don't think you can trust that you're going to get consistent quality starts out of him.
