Man, I’m still blown away by how stupid Fitzgerald is and how bad the pick we made is. Once again drafting for f***ing need. Fitz needs to be fired.

Man you have no clue if he was drafting for need. There was people out there that thought Nemec was a top 2 player in this draft and he is clearly a very good prospect.

We’ll see how it turns down the road but what’s stupid is ripping a pick this much right after it happened and calling it stupid even though it wasn’t much of a reach at all and you have no clue how it will play out.

As I said earlier. Everyone would’ve reacted worse than this if we had taken Makar in 2017. Not saying he’s Makar but he’s a top defense prospect and if Fitz and the devils believed this was the best pick as they clearly did than they should make it as they did.

From the sounds of it Fitz thought there was about 4 guys at the top of the draft with similar upside (likely Nemec, Slafkovsky, Wright and Cooley). He went with Nemec.

Maybe you missed FItz's comments about the pick:

So this was a need pick according to Fitz: "we liked him as a right shot defenseman who can move pucks"

Huh?
How in the world does that say it’s a need pick?
It’s a description of what he is and what they like about him.

Fitz is a f***ing moron and has proven it in every single draft he’s been a part of at some point.

Once again, it was not drafting for need. Drafting for need would've been Jiricek or Gauthier.
This is actually so true. We know exactly what type of defensemen Fitz likes and we know what he’s looking to add up front. If he wanted to get his big typical RD he could’ve taken Jiricek. If he wanted to get a different and more physical forward to compliment our forwards he could’ve.

Nemec won't bust. He's the highest-floor D in the draft. The question is his ceiling.
I really have the opposite read of Nemec.

He's a riverboat gambler. Always activating and trying to create offense, sometimes to a fault. Can kinda get caught causing rushes against.

Reminiscent of Morgan Rielly, which I think is his upside. But if he doesn't iron out the defensive details...

I just wanted Shane Wright.

I've watched a ton of Nemec. He's good defensively, though his upside there is not on par with Jiricek. His outlet passing is surgical, especially concerning his age. He's extremely smart. But yes, I agree he has improvements to make defensively, especially against the rush.

I agree that he's not terrible at in-zone defending. But his transition defense isn't good, which is a death knell for defensemen in the modern NHL. He will absolutely need to improve at it.

And his penchant for wildly activating at every opportunity causes his fair share of rush opportunities for his teammates to deal with.

Which is why I think he is the opposite: High-ceiling, low floor. His ceiling is a high-end puck-moving + high-scoring defenseman. His floor, if he can't defend the rush, is not even in the NHL.

I don't think his transition is bad in the sense that he doesn't know what to do, I think he just tries to be too aggressive, which is really weird because once in the defensive zone, he's the complete opposite lol.

Yeah, I see where you're coming from with that. It's a key flaw, but if he can fix his reads, I think he'll be worth the pick.

My criticisms aside, I do really like Nemec. In a vacuum, I'm very happy with this.

I would have just rather taken Wright though.

Curious.. have you watched a lot of games from Wright this past season?

From my viewings there was nothing to get excited about. He plays like a ghost and is very boring, too.
