Want Kasper so bad. That was my dogs name and i miss him. Will buy a jersey to help pay his next contract after ELC

Kasper seems to be falling into place which has me very stoked. I think he'd be great on the Sens and he would give us really solid center depth.

Assuming Jiricek is gone of course.

How tall is JBD? he looks tiny. According to the internet he is 6'0. Which is surprising.
I've thought the same thing multiple times. He looks more like 5'10 ish

Where does Kasper play next year though? is he still a few years out?

I think Kasper will end up being Ottawa’s backup plan depending how 1-6 go, similar to how Zibanejad was in his draft, and also depending on if they end up using the pick in a trade.

Not a ton of inside info here but I expect the usual suspects to be in our top 6 with Gauthier likely being ahead of Kemmel (especially with the information regarding his height coming out).

Kasper is pretty mature physically already, he seems like the type of kid who would want to come to NA as soon as he can but I’m not sure about the restrictions for him to play in the AHL. I’m thinking he develops for another year, whether its AHL or SHL, and he’d probably be ready to contribute imo.

Thanks for the insight, I'm really starting to warm up to Ottawa drafting Kasper with 7th overall

I don't know about Kasper at 7th OVR.

Admittedly it's been hard to get a good read on how high-end his skillset is when he's been playing against men basically all year, but I don't know if I see a guy who has star potential.

lmao of course they were all giggling like school girls when the 6'8 guy came in the room. I know nothing about him, where is he slotted to go?
#127 among NA skaters by NHL Central is the only place that has him ranked so far. So last few rounds most likely.

That would be Jack Sparkes. He played in the OJHL this year. Teams must be pretty interested in him considering he got an invite to the combine. As long as he tested and interviewed well then he will go fairly high (inside the top 3 rounds or so). I am not sure whether this is the case or not but I think prospects that get invited to the combine tend to go within the top 3 rounds (or possibly the top 4) if they go later than that it is likely the case that they didn't have a good combine or interviewed poorly.

I don't know much about Sparkes as a prospect and can't find any footage of his play or scouting reports on him. From his OJHL stats he does have 72 PIM. In skimming through the game logs almost all his PIMS are from roughing, crosschecking, and boarding.

Here is a rough estimate of his PIMS breakdown: 9 cross checking, 4 tripping, 1 hooking, 1 slashing, 4 roughing, 1 interference, 1 holding, 3 boarding. One of his roughing calls was a double minor, where he was also given a 10 minute misconduct for inciting an opponent. In another game he got a 2 + 10 for head contact.

So at least from his PIMS it looks like he is a pretty physical player who has a strong tendency to crosscheck. The fact that he has only 1 holding and 1 hooking call is a good sign, it might suggest that he has good gap control, angles well and has decent agility. The 4 tripping calls could suggest that he needs some work with his stick, maybe he is being too careless with it.

Guys that get invited to the combine go undrafted every year. An invite doesn’t guarantee a high selection, especially for outlier players like Sparkes. Interviews and testing really aren’t going to decide much, one way or another. The invites for some players are to confirm things. When teams see a 6’8 player, they’re going to light up the same way they did with Curtis Douglas, usually the size makes teams make decisions based on the numbers after the height and weight rather than the players themselves which leads to so many terrible drafting decisions over the years.

Sparkes is a 5th-7th round guy, and that’s only because of his size. He’s not an NHL level prospect if he wasn’t that big, and even with his size I don’t think he’s worth a pick. 6th on his OJHL team in defensive scoring, not worth a pick in the draft, would just be throwing a pick away on a hope and a dream.

Guys that size are as rare as guys that are 5’6, and those that make it are putting up strong numbers in much better leagues.

His one ranking of 127th NA has him on the edge of drafted/undrafted, though his 6’8 height will guarantee someone takes him higher than his play dictates.

Last year from rankings 120-130 NA, 4/11 were drafted (6th round being highest) strange year with Covid.

2020 from 120-130 NA, 3/11 were drafted strange year with covid

2019 from 120-130 NA, 6/11 were drafted

2018 from 120-130 NA, 3/11 were drafted

2017 from 120-130 NA, 6/11 were drafted.

Fair to say the Sens draft a guy like Sparkes in the 2nd round given the track record of reaching? :D

Pronman has the Senators taking Kemell in his latest mock draft at 7

Talks about Lekkerimaki too and has Gauthier at 5th to the Flyers. Says scouts see him as a C as a pro.

If we move our pick with Vancouver , If Jack Hughes son of Kent ( Montreal GM ) would be a good target. Would be funny. Other name in this target ?

It is hard to say.

Some lists have players like Kasper (who all of a sudden is name around here) in the 15th slot, some have Nazar in the 15th slot.

This draft is going to be a toss up.

I would like to see us trade the 7th in a package for a player like Fiala or swap 7th and 15th then trade the 15th in a package with an additional prospect for Fiala

Tkachuk/Norris/Batherson
Fiala/Stutzle/Garland

Assuming Jiricek is gone of course.
I would be worried about him becoming a ghost! :)

My updated wishlist based off of Sens needs/drafting patterns (I am assuming Slafkovsky and Wright are gone):

1. David Jiricek
2. Simon Nemec
3. Cutter Gauthier
4. Trade the pick
Cooley?

Can’t see them passing on either of the RDs

A. It would be a near miracle if they dropped to us
B. They fit into the depth chart perfectly. They’d be the perfect pick
Any of the players who seem to currently be in the top 5 would be a great pick for the Senators:
Wright
Slavkofsky
Cooley
Nemec
Jiricek
