NGL it does feel we’re due for a « reboot the franchise » lotto win ala Pittsburgh. The hockey gods work in mysterious ways.
I'm not sure I'd call Bettman a god, and how he works is not that mysterious.
Wouldn’t be shocked if Bettman makes the ping pong balls magically bounce the Sens way to entice new ownership…
Why do you think the NHL uses that uber-complicated system instead of just balls? Much easier to hide shenanigans when no one understands the system...

I would like to throw in Nazar to that list. He is fine playmaker, dangerous off the rush and and can fly. He has 3 points through 2 games in the tournament, but could have easily had several more with the high danger chances he generates. He has a been a standout on a really good USA U18 Team.

Heck, you can throw Howard as well.

Now seeing guys like Gauthier, Nazar and Howard, who ranked 13, 14 and 15 respectively on Bob's midterm draft ranking, I feel a lot better about the player we could get between 7 and 9. If you apply Sens draft math/tendencies to Bob's midterm list, there is no way we are taking Yurov, or Miroshnichenko for the Russain factor(made worse in this geopolitical climate) or the faller in Lambert, so that moves all three to cusp of the top ten.

I am looking forward to watching both Kemell and Lekkerimaki in the U18, because if they are as good or better than Gauthier, Nazar and Howard, we are going to get a heck of player in the 2022 draft.

I thought about Nazar, I'd prefer him over Howard .,. Add him.

is there really that big of a difference between Cooley and Nazar that one is a top 10 pick and the other isn't?

I don't think so, unless someone puts a massive emphasis on Cooley's higher likelihood to play center at the next level.

Cooley can catch your eye more because he's high energy, attacks defenders and is more flashy in the way he tries to create offense, but I think his hockey IQ is overrated. He's a smart player but not on the same level as Nazar, who is truly thinks the game at a high level. Almost always makes the right decision and makes his teammates better.

To put it another way, Cooley is kind of like Stutzle in the way he plays, while Nazar is more like Raymond. Different styles but overall I expect their effectiveness to be pretty similar.

Can you elaborate?

I'm sincerely asking, as I see the two pretty close as far as potential.
Best 2 way forward in the draft
Definite center
Extremely high I.Q in each zone
Extremely skilled playmaker and shooter
Very strong skater, ridiculous acceleration
Relentless motor
PP1 and PK1

There’s a tier of 2 guys in my opinion in Wright and Cooley. Then a tier of 3 in Slaf, Nemec and Jiricek.

Thanks! Let's see if I learned anything/get what you guys are talking about..when you talk prospects. I did the first three rounds. My picks are based on what you guys say and my reaction to what you say would be.."Well that kid sounds good." Lol. Roast away! Hahaha

4 - Simon Nemec
36 - Jimmy Snuggerud
60 - Jagger Firkus
68 - Noah Warren
87 - Rohrer Vinzenz (because he's a 67)

I don't know why we got 4th.

Joakim Kemell has stated that he likes to model his game off of Ovechkin. He seems to play pretty physically, that could make him appealing to the Sens if they want a player that is going to be conducive to the identity they are trying to build..

Does anyone know how physical Matt Savoie is? I read somewhere that he had been more physical in the USHL last year and both his role and a concussion this year has made him less physical than last season. The Sens will likely want to be consistent in building their identity so some of the prospects that don't have a ton of size will still need to play fairly physically to get serious consideration. Is Savoie above average in terms of his physical play?

It is a good comparison.

I think Nazar would be a great compliment to Chucky and Norris on the RW. They would both benefit from a playmaker on the line. And on the PP, we need another guy that can make some slick seam passes.

So who are the players that you think we should be looking at that could realistically be available with our pick?
I’m not a big fan of any of the guys in the range we will be in, barring one of the 2 D and 3 big forwards falling. After those 5 guys I’d much prefer to trade the pick.

If we’re keeping it and drafting in the 7-10 range I’d hope for one of Lekkerimaki, Kasper, Yurov or Mintuykov. Not expecting any of them, and wouldn’t be upset passing on any of them, but that’s who I’d be hoping for.

ITT: People making a case that picking 8th is just as good as picking 3rd or 4th lmao.
I haven’t seen that. You may get a better player at 8 but control is always better. I’m happy with winning, don’t care about the draft until the season is over.

One option that could be interesting would be to trade the pick in a package for a significant player and hope to get a late first back as part of the return. Then use that late first on Miroshnichenko.

I am curious to see how far he falls in the draft given his illness. If the Sens could get him with either a late first or early second it might be worth the gamble.

But I see what you are saying about the players in our range. There are some decent players but I am not getting a must draft sense on them. I also wonder how the Sens scouts breakdown the drop off in talent. There seems to be a chunk of prospects after the top 5 picks that are fairly interchangeable. Maybe the Sens look to trade back in this draft.

Alright. Nice picks. I thnk we see Snuggerud and Firkus in the 1st.
Noah Warren could go around there but probably higher
Rohrer .. I really like . I think he could go in the 2nd.

You picked well but the rankings of DraftPro and FCHockey leaave a lot to be desired.

DraftPro sim picks:
6. David Jiricek
36. Rieger Lorenz
60. Gleb Trikozov
68. Reid Schaefer
88. Devin Kaplan
132. Noah Warren
144. Brady Stonehouse
152. Joshua Davies
164. Parker Bell
204. Roman Makarov

Also did a 2nd version because I missed out on Liam Anrsby and wanted to draft him. I also thought Warren was ranked too low so I used a higher pick on him in the 2nd draft.

Damn, I forgot to take Marcus Nguyen in my mock draft. He is certainly worth a look in the mid to late rounds.
