NHL Entry Draft 2022 NHL Draft Thread - Part 2

I dont think him and Chabot were remotely close at this age. The skating difference is just way too big. Chabot also didnt mind laying the lumber a bit in Jr i expected more of it at the NHL level but that competitive edge is needed big time in Luneau's game. Skating can be worked on but he has a long way to go.

Agree id take Warren over him too. I like his upside alot again comes down to skating but he plays with a mean streak too.

This also comes back to Goyette though, this guy can flat out score. Ottawa East in general gets massively under scouted. Then he didnt play hockey last year where anyone actually watches now he goes to Sudbury who stinks who also gets under scouted. Getting big time Giroux vibes, his offensive instincts are off the charts, so are his hands.
More than fair, differing opinion.

I definitely don’t have as good a read on Luneau this year as I did Chabot, but have heard quite a bit about the 4 guys on the Olympiques. I’d be pretty surprised if Luneau never went higher than most here expect him, after Nemec/Jiricek, so 6-15 range would not surprise me, Warren I’d think will be a 25-45 guy, and then Savoie and Verrault I think will probably fall towards the 6th/7th if at all, though I’ve heard, second hand, some speak of Savoie as a guy under the radar.

I was intrigued by his last entry and wonder if anyone has an opinion on this:

"Ivan Miroshnichenko, LW, Omsk (VHL): Next to impossible to assess due to his Hodgkin’s Lymphoma diagnosis. With all things being equal and based on the last assumption of when he was playing completely healthy at the U18’s, he is definitely a top 10 talent."

From what I have read and seen (limited highlight packages) he seems to be a player we would like? Has size and likes to play physical (one quote said he hits like a truck), skates well and has a great shot. Not sure status of his medical diagnosis and he isn't the, "late riser" we typically like but any chance we get him with an early 2nd and he turns in to a steal?

Not sure the Sens will go down the Jarrod Maiddens road again.

Looks like jiricek or kemell are the likely hopeful targets assuming we get lucky with other teams picking ahead of us, seeing as we’re going to pick 8th…

I wonder if Daylan Kuefler could be another Tanner Jeannot type. Kuefler is in his final year of draft eligibility and this is his production in the WHL this season:
65 GP 38 G 21 A 59 PTS 97 PIMS

Heck, Chicago, NJ and Philly are possibilities to pass us. Philly and NJ both play us, we lose those games and it will get very interesting.

Assuming we stand pat in our draft slot, I think Jiricek is the most realistic target that fits our needs. Would be pretty happy if we can land him at ~7th,
I have been on the Jiricek RD bandwagon from the start of the season & always thought we would finsh somewhere bewteen 5th to 8th although it could still change & who knows what the lottery will do to where we stand. I like Jiricek since he could be a top 4 RD in the NHL, he has good size at 6'3" already & he plays with a edge that DJ likes. He's a decent skater, likes to hit, has a good shot & I expect will mix it up.

IMO he fills a need although it could take him a couple of yrs to reach, but he already has NHL size & just has to get better & quicker at making decisions & catching up to NHL speed. Being a European he could play in Belleville next season & learn the game from Troy Mann which would be ideal that he could be called up. Hopefully his knee won't give him too much trouble, we had a good defenceman in Cowen & he blew out his knee in junior & then his hip started giving him problems & his career ended quickly. I like Luneau too & if they don't get either Jiricek or Nemec I wonder if they will reach for Luneau? I would also like to see them draft Noah Warren RD from the Olympiques in the 2nd rd.

Chabot - Jiricek
Sanderson - JBD
Kleven - Zub/Guennette

Got to hope for no better than 1-4 in these last five games if we want a top five pick, but that will be tough playing PHI, NJ, and MTL to end the season. Chicago has PHI, BUF and SJ remaining in their last 5 and New Jersey has Us, DET*2, and BUF but also has CAR*2. Seattle is also on a 3 game winning streak (HISTORIC) with a game in hand but their schedule is a lot more difficult. Definitely still a possibility to end up in that 5 spot come draft lottery day but it's going to take a lot of bad (good?) luck.

Absolutely zero chance Jiricek is available at 8. The reality is we're getting a second tier guy this draft. I just hope the team doesn't go way off board again.

We don't know where we will be picking the lottery always changes from where teams ended up when the season ends. It would be nice to see the lottery help us for a change instead of making our picks later.

At this point I'm just hoping we stay below Buffalo and Detroit. Chicago is a pretty hopeless team and Ottawa has a very easy schedule. It's still within reach but would require lots of luck.

For a minute there it looked like we were headed back towards that top 5 until that win against Vancouver. Nucks could have had like 5 goals in the last 10 minutes, they were absolutely dominating. Feels bad because we kill a Canadian team's playoff chances while tanking our draft position.

I'd say most of the guys in the top ten are solid guys who can help the team.

I thought there was no chance teams would pass on a big 6'4 two-way RD like Dobson back in 2018 and he ended up falling to 12.

Crazy things can happen on draft day.

Kemell's fading production will probably put him off the Sens radar, if his size didn't do that already.

Sens have consistently stayed away from draft year fallers.

Lekkerimäki and Lambert are our insurance policy. Kemell might slip a bit

He's a top ten pick if he didn't Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I would easily move up to grab him.

I don’t think there is a defined “second tier” this year. In my opinion, Wright and Cooley are in a tier of their own then there are around 15 guys that are all capable of being top-5 picks.
Ottawa will get a good player.

1st rd - Jiricek RD or Lekkerimaki RW or Yurov C/RW
2nd rd - Gaucher C
2nd rd - Warren RD
3rd rd - Kaplin RW
3rd rd - Donovan LD

Not sure the Sens will go down the Jarrod Maiddens road again.
Very different situations though.

One is a (hopefully!) treatable disease the other was concussions that was a true unknown.

I would certainly hope this young man is getting great treatment already.

Does he go in the 1st round or would teams be scared off?

Am I understanding the pick odds properly that Ottawa's pick can only be 1, 2, 7, 8, or 9? (assuming that we don't move in the draft order, currently 7th - I hope we do move down, but you know what I mean).

Looking at that tankathon site, that's what I'm getting from it.

That is correct. Only a lottery for the top 2 picks

Snuggerud is a player to to keep on eye on the U18s. He is by many accounts the most improved player on the US Development team and he doesn't turn 18 until June 1st.

Big, skilled and rapidly improving are some of the hallmarks of a Senators draft pick.

He is projected to be on a line with Cooley and C.Gauthier, so he will have opportunity to play with and be compared with highly ranked draft prospects. Cooley is top 5 and Gauthier is top ten on many lists.
