NHL Entry Draft 2022 NHL Draft Thread - Part 2

Not an easy schedule for Detroit, they could drop almost all of their games. Really hope we manage to stay behind them and Buffalo but I have my doubts.

Best case scenario is an ugly skid for Ottawa and we finish behind CHI and NJD. Philly looks out of reach at this point.

Ottawa has been playing some great hockey lately so if I had to put money on it I’d say we finish 8th last.
I'm hoping Buffalo gets 2-3 of a possible 8 ; Detroit gets 3-4 pts out of a possible 12; and Ottawa gets no more than 70pts (500 for their remaining 7)

I haven't really looked at the draft class much this year but I hope we draft Luca Del Bel Belluz just for that amazing name

did a mock draft sim this morning, we had a 6th overall selection and picked Kemell...

C'mon Philly and NYJ, quit being so crap

I keep hearing people complaining about a late season run wrecking our chances at a good pick but that’s not really what has happened. The team had a brutal start (again) but even with the Batherson, Norris and Chabot injuries has played at a level to get the 10th pick since returning from the pause. It’s not a late run we are just not a bottom 5-7 team anymore.

We’re playing the other bottom teams. Sens have 3 wins against teams above them in the Standings in their past 25 games, 2 of which they were significantly outshot.

6 of their past 8 wins were against teams below them or Detroit, and had lost 3 to teams below them in the same span. Their remaining 7 games they play 4 teams behind them.

It’s a late run fueled by the easiest schedule in the league down the stretch by a gigantic margin.

20/25 of their last games are against non-playoff teams, and 17 of those are against the worst teams in the league (Detroit and below)

Conversely they played through the toughest part of their schedule early. This team as currently constructed is not a bottom 10 team.

They are below the Columbus’s/Islanders/etc. and better than the bottom 5/6 teams.

Would not be surprised in the least for a bottom 5 finish next year, expect a ~bottom 10 finish.

We were never as bad as our record indicates in both this season and last. In both seasons, we got off to terrible starts, in my opinion, because of goaltending. As soon as we got stable goaltending, we started winning some games.

Next year I’ll put us ahead of

Detroit, Buffalo by a hair, Montreal, NJ, Philly, Arizona, Seattle, Chicago, SJ.

I expect to pass a couple of Columbus, NYI, Anaheim, LA, Winnipeg and Vancouver.

We SHOULD have our best D corps we’ve had in such a long time, our top 9 is developing nicely. Goaltending is a question mark but that’s true for a number of teams.

I’m bullish on the Sens with the jumps I’ve seen from our core players.

You are what your record says you are. This team as constructed is a bottom 10 team, because they are a bottom 10 team. We are exactly as bad as our record indicates.

"Yeah but COVID missed games / injuries missed games / our draft picks are coming" - same for most teams in the league.

Will we climb out of that next year? I sure hope so, but claiming we already have is nonsense.

I disagree. A consistently accurate predictor of a teams standing year in and year out is goal differential. We are currently better than 9 other teams in goal differential.

Not all teams are trending in the right direction. I see the teams making a jump next year as Ottawa, Buffalo and Anaheim. I see Detroit being improving slightly and LA regressing a little.

I agree with the point of goal differential. Even if we're not an offensive juggernaut or elite defending team, goal differential tells a lot.

I'd disagree on the quacks tho, they were carried hard by Troy Terry and unless Zegras makes a huge leap, they have so many holes. Getzlaf will be gone, Comtois, Steel and Silverberg need to step up production wise, and that D looks awful. I hope they stay in mediocrity though lol

If anything we got "lucky" tanking wise given how many games Norris, Batherson, and Chabot missed.

Wright preformed at an impressive rate this season. Out of all draft eligible players he produced at the highest clip.

It feels like people are trying hard to find someone else at #1 when nothing against the rest of the crop, it’s not really close.
None of the guys people are putting over Wright played in the CHL

You’re right. I just remember earlier in the year going through the Savoie thread and seeing the Wright disrespect and every time Wright has been showcased on the national stage the same “Wight should not be 1st” narrative would get louder.

I still don’t see any other player that even comes close to Wright’s 1st overall status.

Good loss last night in a game we may have circled as a win.
6 games left .. they can go 3-2-1 which is respectable to get to 70 pts
Detroit and Buffalo should be able to get over 70.
Buffalo 4 gr 69 pts
Detroit 6 gr 68 pts

Heck, Chicago, NJ and Philly are possibilities to pass us. Philly and NJ both play us, we lose those games and it will get very interesting.

Assuming we stand pat in our draft slot, I think Jiricek is the most realistic target that fits our needs. Would be pretty happy if we can land him at ~7th,

possible... I was just guessing that we don't climb past 7th from the bottom; although that is possible as well.
