what are the new rules with the draft? You can only move up 2 spots?

Only lotteries for the top 2 picks and you can only move up a max 10 spots so 13th and higher cant get 1st overall.

The new rules are the same as previous years. Ottawa and Detroit will fall in the draft lol

I imagine we pick 6-8th. Which is unfortunate as there's a good chance that guy doesn't play for us for 2-3 years and the gaping hole in the top 6 remains.

i'm sort of numb to it after last year.

I mean how much worse could it be be than to never compete all year only to draft 10 and miss out on Eklund, Clarke, Guenther just to take Boucher.

A worse fate is not possible this year. (hopefully)

I have this feeling that in 10 years time, I’ll be on HockeyDB scrolling through the 2021 draft class and suddenly remember that a completely useless hot streak robbed us of all the amazing players from like 4-9.

This is a draft where moving up from our early 2nd into the 20-30 range makes a lot of sense.
Hopefully Dorion&co make it happen.

Yep we need to lose more than we win (against teams close to us in draft order) to ensure we force a quality no brainer pick in the top tier of this draft. Winning culture blah blah blah about finishing the season strong to carry over to next October. Look how that worked out this year. f*** that noise. The tank is on.

Well that's not exactly promising. Who knows, maybe we actually get lucky for once.

I mostly agree, but I see it as a top 4 as I did with 2020 when it was Lafreniere, Byfield, Raymond, Stutzle all pretty close. Here it's Wright, Slafkovsky, Yurov, Cooley. Yurov looks like a pretty special player to me. In the same tier as Raymond, Stutzle, Cooley. Wright looks pretty similar quality to Lafreniere. Slafkovsky looks a little better than Byfield. All are better than anyone in the 2021 draft. The next tier down would include the likes of Sanderson, Drysdale, Holtz, Beniers, Power, Hughes, Clarke, Eklund, McTavish, Nemec, Jiricek, Lekkerimaki.

Yeah that's fair, I haven't been able to follow guys as closely this year, Yurov for example I have seen next to nothing on aside from reading the odd report. Idk if I see guys like Nemec and jiricek in the same tier as Powers and Sanderson, then again I may be overly high on Sanderson so who knows

I'm a fair bit higher on Nemec than I am on Jiricek. I would definitely have Nemec right there with Power and Sanderson. He'd probably rank behind them, but close enough to call the same tier.

Jiricek, meh. I wouldn't argue too hard on. Sanderson and Power are definitely better so we'd just be arguing about what a "tier" means and how broad it should be.

Fascinating. I actually think they have the highest impact upside of anyone in this draft. Watching Jiri I was in awe of his overall package, especially his ridiculous touches on the puck. Hands and skating of a winger with size and poise of a defender. Nemec is the more reliable 2 way with excellent breakout ability and composure with what I compared to how I see Drysdale in his draft year(with better handling of pressure in defensive zone, imo).

Only way is if we get absolutely lucky by hitting home run with Lekkerimaki or Yurov the same way FLA did with Lundell.

We're probably trading it at that point. If not Fiala, what other options do we have for trading possible 8th overall?

I just did a mock draft and we had a 4th overall pick (Nimec), if we get 6th overall I hope we get Geekie or Savoie!
