Could be an option. Flyers pick you mean? I still take the forward though, Gaudreau type. It's 100 points
If I could trade back and get him or find another way to get a top 5 pick great but have no problem taking Nemec 1OA as I don't think the separation is much at the top and if you take away the premium on size and position that is factored into the ranking it's even less. To me a top PMD is just as important in the new NHL as a 2C if not more plus I plan on tanking again next year and fill that spot

Embarrassing how the talking heads in the media have started drooling at Slaf strictly due to size and because he toe-ied a couple bum dmen. News flash, he ain’t pulling off those moves in the show and he’s going to be forced out in the perimeter which, all the goals I’ve watched except the odd puck on edge fluke shot have been pretty subpar shots beating terrible goaltending. Big mistake if they go this guy instead of a Centre

We should probably do a poll to find the “anybody but not X prospect,” this year’s Tkachuk. The guy we won’t take who will make a lot of vitriolic posts look really bad in two years.

Wright or Slaf, I guess.

The conversation has become so dominated by those two, and yes, the posts have become vitriolic, so one of those two I think.

My dream scenario for Thursday.

Zero chance they draft Slafkovsky with #1. Kent Hughes really likes Logan Cooley. Would not be surprised if they pick him over Wright. Ideally, Habs management would like to trade down with the assurance Cooley will be available at #2 or #3. Then use #26 or #33 plus other assets (preferably a Petry or Anderson type of asset) to move up and draft Cooley's teammate Cutter Gauthier or one of Nemec/Jiricek or a RW.

/end of dream

I know some are worried about Renaud Lavoie's comments, but to be honest, all this does is prove to me that there are no inside leaks anymore. His comments come off as pure speculation and somebody who's grasping at straws, like pretty much all the other reporters at the moment.

Gorton, Hughes, Machabee and all the other members of the organization are really running a tight ship at the moment.
It seems that Timmins and MB were the main leakers under the previous regime. With them gone, nothing is coming out.

Cooley had 7 other guys that will be drafted in the first round playing with him and he wasn't able to show any sort of domination over his peers.

Have you ever thought maybe, just maybe, some of those players are going to be drafted in the 1st round because they played with Cooley?

Because I think Gauthier is fine but he's going like top 5 because Cooley made him look better offensively than he is. Snuggerud is going to owe Cooley a first round grade for his entire career.

Maybe 2 or 3 of them I could accord it to you but not 8 or even more! That team was loaded.

The NTDP is always loaded with talent but it's nowhere near as good as its been in some previous iterations. Its deep but its lacking star power (consider the fact Cam York, Cole Caufield, Jack Hughes, Matt Boldy, Alex Turcotte, Trevor Zegras etc. were all on the same team).

Cooley was their best player against NCAA competition and was still their best PPG player of all of them. Their ice-time distribution was very even among all 3 lines so I would wager his point per 60 is relatively strong to his NTDP comparators.

No problem buddy, I just expected some sort of separation if Cooley was apparently much better...

Wright / Slaf are projected 2C/2W yet ranked at top of this draft but Savoie who’s never been mentioned in the running for 1OA is an elite 1st liner????

Cooley was over a PPG vs 21-25 year old NCAA players…

You'd like to see more, we all would but his advanced stats show a guy who gave his linemates the puck in scoring areas a lot. Like a lot. Like more than most players tracked. Not just this year. I think his numbers are lower than they should have been but that's just a theory.

Its clear the Habs like and dislike things about all 3 players. We all have our preferences.

We just have to temper expectations. We are getting a good player but we likely aren't getting a franchise changing player.

Yes because the top 3 can only be considered for their floor. Everyone else you can go nuts with their absolute ceiling (and sweep the fact that a non-negligible number of them will never make the NHL under the rug)

I want the player more likely to develop a cult of personality. This is what we miss since Kovalev and Subban, and before that since Lafleur and Maurice Richard. This is what Montreal loves deep down. A religious energy.

I have stayed away from the repetitive debates on this forum and elsewhere (hello Twitter). Mais là, je me mouille.

I believe the Habs will take Cooley. Will I be disappointed if they pick Wright or Slavkovski? No.

My hunch is that Renaud is doing the dirty deeds for the organisation. I said that I would be waiting for some ‘inside’ info. I think that’s the first inkling into their intentions : preparing the crowd for a not-Wright.

He threw Slav’s name out there for the NJ decoy. But I do believe that Hughes is leaning Cooley. In part because of familiarity (not only that, but I noticed that it seems to contribute in many hockey-related decisions he takes), and because of the style of player Cooley is : speedy, IQ, character.

Crowd at the Bell Centre won’t be happy (the polls here reflect the general perception. And some will boo (certain of that). But they have their sights on the American kid.

Meaning we will have to live with our centre line for at least 1 more season. One of the weakest centre line in the East, IMHO. Barf.

On La Dose, his tone was too unequivocal. And seeing his partner’s tweet last evening tells me that he has a source. It’s not HuGo. But he is very close to Bouillon. Very. And Bouillon might have been used here.

Grasping at something that is not there? Maybe. If others come out today with the same ‘insight’, it will reaffirm my belief.

Cooley it will be.

That centre line doesn't change with any of the players in this draft.

They leaked some of Wright's numbers where he was top in 1on1 battles and defensive metrics...
