If they take slafkovsky and either of the centres become 1 or 2’s it’s a fireable offence
How so? There is no generational player among the 3 they are targeting.

Everyone knows you don’t draft on need with an early pick, esp. a 1OA. Case in point, Hughes himself stated in today’s presser that he’s not looking for who is the best 18 year old but who will be the best 22-23-24 year old. By the time that player is 22-23-24, Habs may have different needs.

If after conducting their organizational due diligence, they end up with a player who also happens to be a C, it’ll be a bonus.

I don’t dismiss Lavoie’s take. Renaud wants to look good. He would look great if Mtl did not take Wright.

Before dismissing him, je me garderais une tite gêne.
I agree, but only if he tweets it. So far he hasn't been so forthcoming.

Because unless the winger is a slam dunk pick, which you said he is not, you should always take a risk on the best center or best dman.

Slafkovsky may be able to turn into a center. He has good playmaking skills and is defensively responsible.

Hughes mentioned in his PC at some point that they also look if a player can switch position.

I can't imagine they were talking about Wright, who is a prototypical center, so either they were talking about Slaf at C or Cooley at W.

I would throw all the eggs at getting Nemec as well as whoever we draft first.. I don't know why.. it's probably too many eggs.. But I feel like it's worth it.

Actually, the more I learn about Nemec, I am wondering why he isn't part of the 1OA discussion...
I think it can be pretty much penciled in that he’s going to Seattle. Seattle reps were at Nitra games more than any other scouting group, and Seattle has signed Samuel Bucek (Nitra player) to play in the AHL with him next season. I honestly wouldn’t be shocked if they took him as well as Sykora

Or maybe he's speaking about players in general

The positive thing about drafting Cooley, is even if we suck, it'll be fun to watch him play.
If Cooley is their guy they should make a serious play to drop back, because the odds of another team picking him at 1 are slim to none.

Maybe we draft him at 1OA as a power winger, and move him to d, like Markov

Post I was replying to claimed that not getting this pick right, is a “fireable offence.” I don’t see how.

If positional criteria were really the litmus test, why is Nemec not stated to be in the final 3, over a LW?

Maybe the Habs are asking lavoie to float this rumour to scare NJ into giving something up for them not to pick slaf?

I’ve seen Shane Wright play Wing at Team Canada scrimmages but he lost some effectiveness in his play. But it could help him stay in Montreal. However, in the long run, he absolutely needs to play Center.

Slafkovsky plays way down for a winger in his own zone, often behind the red line and the net. He also checks players in the slot. i don’t know if Craig Ramsey makes him play like that but it’s unusual. Usually players Cooley’s size are wingers so maybe they see him more there. But it seems to run counter for them looking for a Center.

What all the hate for Renaud Lavoie? I kind of take his comments seriously, especially the tone. I don't believe he's doing that for promotion or making things up out of thin air. There's a general mood he's communicating here. Is it 100% bulletproof? No. But it's still information.

Guys...it's going to be Wright. Cooley is clearly a step below and Slaf is offensively challenged.

Funny because I have the opposite sentiments. I'm fearful that they'll draft Wright due to media pressure because having watched all three play I think the other two have much higher ceilings

Cooley is offensively gifted and Slaf has the hands/vision/size to be an impactful player. The international play is too good to ignore.

The SW being Bergeron 2 is really off from what I've watched. He's defensively average. Plenty of excuses out of his camp as well. On top of it he wasn't close to the best player on his team's playoff run.

Yet he hasn't even posted it to his twitter or even referred to it

Makes me wonder if he's actually willing to commit to this take
Because the ‘’podcast’’ episode is coming out tomorrow morning. He’ll most likely post it on his twitter when it will be fully out.

Detroit is probably targetting Lekkerimaki and Anaheim is probably targeting Nazar. Need the Sens pick if we want to get one of those two guys. I'm not a fan of trading a guy like Anderson to a rival like the Sens, but we aren't really going anywhere with him.
