Nah Cooley is more like Backstrom, it's clearly more offensive. Brad Marchand is ...Caufield.
You should rewatch some video with Marchand in mind.. size-wise, skating, moves and body language

You have to read between the lines, for someone like Lavoie (who has a lot of sources, especially within the organization), to say "he'd fall out of his chair" is too extreme of a statement to make. He's basically implying that we most likely won't pick him but he obviously can't quote his sources within the organization.

It would have helped if he said: “behind the scenes, word is…” One person close to the organization suggests…”. I find it’s very thin to go and bet my life savings against Shane Wright.

Leverage, for some reason management doesn't want to give anything away but they do wanna leak who they like (or who they don't). Something bigger might be happening.

If nothing pans out (trade-wise) they'll just go with their initial pick. Now that's what you call speculation because i have no name/reputation within the hockey biz . Lavoie has his reputation to lose tho ;).

The Lavoie statement is interesting. Though a bit of hyperbole to say you’d fall out of your chair if the #1 rated prospect is taken 1st.

Also should have stopped while he was ahead. To say it’s an advantage to draft Slafkovsky because he can play in the AHL makes no sense to me.

Especially when Hughes made it clear they want to take their time with the prospect

This part is where I think it's all him. If I'm management I just tell him who we're not taking and let him speculate on the rest. It puts pressure on everyone else below us.

Laval hasn’t been a real hotbed for development lately either. Look at Norlinder, what a clusterf*** that all was.

Slafkovsky goes to Laval and has a great stretch, gets called up way too early and falls flat. Or he doesn’t really produce in Laval and everyone is wondering wtf did we do with the 1st pick.

Very good point.

In the event that we do draft Shane, it's quite nice that people think he's primarily a defensive center. He takes his responsibilities seriously, but people will be pleasantly surprised to find out just how offensive he is.

I mean, he will be good.

Just not as fun as Cooley, is all.

How good really is Slafkovsky?

If we think he is the real deal, why not go for it?

We all know how much a player like Anderson changes the look of our team when he's in the lineup...

Add Slaf, an even bigger guy, more skill.... and profit.

I think they're all going to be good. I'm only picking Shane because we have 1st OA.

If we had 2nd, I'd pick Slaf.

3rd, Cooley or Jiricek

As we saw, Josh Anderson ushered an era of unprecedented success for both Columbus and Montreal. The mere presence is enough to galvanize a hockey club to unheard of strength and power.
