I ultimately think they'll pick Wright - especially with all of the post-combine contact they've had with him, although I do enjoy seeing this last minute Cooley surge - would be elated if he's the pick.

I'm ok with him at 1st OV as well but I'd be even happier if it's after a trade down where we get a little extra on top.

I don’t think we can put too much in what Engels said since he said he doesn’t know much.

Hughes yesterday said Vinny would probably talk with both other guys before the draft too.
Basu just said on 690 that he also sought it was Wright but Hughes' smokescreen monday has him thinking maybe slaf lol

Nothing in what Hughes said pointed to Slafkovsky though, unless they think he’s gonna be the better player at 22-23-24 and that his character on the ice shows more than the other two, or that they think his hockey sense point to him knowing how to use his best attributes and assets… shoot, they might actually think all of that about him 😂

They are doing their due diligence but at the same time, that makes me nervous that they need to grill him that many times to decide lol 😅

This poll is such a great example of the ever present contrarian dynamic.

Both polls had Wright ahead by a landslide.

In the first poll Slafkovskiy was creating separation from Cooley as he gained contrarian support (augmenting honest support)

Now the contrarian vote, that can on their principles not go to Wright has shifted to Cooley now that McKenzie's poll and Pronman(barf) have put Slaf in the lead.

This is not to discredit every person's opinion who voted for Slaf or Cooley as many have made their choice based on honest observation but it is 100% the contrarian b.s. vote that causes the swing

Wards on 690 saying he bumped into
Wrights representative. Says the habs talked to him 6+ times
Also said Wright's agent seems to feel positive about things.

The Wright talk starts about 9:55 into the segment.

Engels is also a f***ing idiot.

If you're 48 hours away from picking and you don't know who you're picking, just step down as a gm.

It's not like youre Mike Grier were you just got the job today.

He didn't say they didn't know who -they- were picking. Just that they haven't told anyone. He said if he doesn't know, not to be egotistical, but he's talked to everyone you could talk to and they didn't tell him. So no one knows but the Habs.,

It's interesting that the agent is making it known that the habs have been talking to him lots. Because from my expansive knowledge from watching Draft Day, there's always a purpose behind those actions.

I'd say it's at least original.

Don't see the point of having Zacha part of that deal.

While it might be fair(ish) value wise, I don't think that does it for either team.
NJ doesn't get a high end piece that would make them let go of the 2nd OA.
While we part with a lot of our assets in one go. Not saying it wouldn't be nice to get that 2nd OA pick, but in the best of cases that fills up one of the many holes in our under construction core. The equation is (assets we'd get for Anderson, ie top6 player or equivalent) + (top 4 D in Romanov) + 2X (potential core players in 26th and 33rd).

I dunno, feels like that's putting lot of eggs in the one basket that is 2nd OA.

Anyway, it's likely a pipe dream as I don't think there's a realistic scenario where we get 2nd OA without trading back from our 1st OA.
Yea I think that was what I was trying to get across here. It would take something outrageous and risky to get it done, If NJ is looking to make a push now, maybe they'd consider it but it's a lot to give up for a question mark from our perspective.

Engels just said based on what he heard he doesn't think Cooley is really in the discussion. But doesn't specify if that's the Habs or just from other people.

Sam Cosentino says they are meeting Slafkovsky again soon but they've met Wright 6 times.

For us Cooley fans that's disappointing. Hope it's not something he heard from the Habs!

I necessarily wouldn't read into it too much.. could be "how are you feeling?" and then telling them they've talked to him 6 times as context.

Didnt @WeThreeKings say that legit leaking would come from guys like Renaud Lavoie?

Him and Engels. So what Renaud said and no follow up, with Engels being adamant no one knows.

No one knows but the Habs.
