This reminds me a lot of Carolina a few years ago.

Had a strong team that bombed out due to terrible goaltending and won #2 spot.
It let them get that high skilled forward they lacked and they slingshot over the competition.

Since there don't seem to be any franchise altering guys, I kind of hope we trade the pick for an established younger guy tbh.

Do we really need another player that likely won't be able to contribute for 2 years? I'd like to start winning some games.

Please tell me why we should pick Slafkovsky when Kakko went 45-22-16-38 +1 with TPS in Liiga as an 18 year old and Slafkovsky went 31-5-5-10 +1 as an 18 year old with TPS in Liiga? Kakko hasn't amounted to too much with the Rangers. Slafkovsky severely underperformed compared to Kakko!!!!
Because it’s about so much more than numbers. You have to watch many games of the prospects.
Slafkovsky struggled to produce for a while with limited opportunity. As he’s gotten more opportunity and grown confident he’s started to produce.

But even before he started producing his skillset and potential were so obvious.

Svech was a way better prospect that year Slaf but it's a fair point, goaltending will plague them though until they find someone there

If only there was a Svech to pick. He'd be really challenging Wright for 1

Unfortunately other teams know this and are unlikely to trade a young established cost controlled player for the pick

I'm talking about someone who's due to get paid. We can afford it, It might be a good out for a team that's in a cap crunch. IDK which players might fit that bill w/o doing some research, but I'm sure there are a few.

Now we can afford it. In a couple years when we start being a perennial playoff team we will need cost controlled assets. All indications from Fitz/ownership is that they are thinking medium to long term.

I think he's got potential to be a fantastic player. He's much better on smaller NA ice than bigger EU ice. Probably the main reason why he was so dominant at the Olympics. Big guy. Not only very tall but also heavy. Almost unbeatable along the boards. Combination of soft hands + elite wrist shot makes him also a very good finisher. Fantastic kid with very good attitude, very popular here in Slovakia with a lot of followers, his interviews are gold.
Thank you very much!!

If our potential top 6 pans out... woah

I mean...we won't be able to keep them all, just saying (assuming they all do pan out). I'm not sure why people keep having this fantasy of having an absolutely loaded top 6. Unless you wanna roll out ahl level players in the bottom 6 I guess and some ahl d-men.

Nico, Jack, and Dougie making a combined 24 mil per season for the next 5+ years is gonna be a steal, though, especially assuming the cap continues to go up.

In a world where top players are regularly making 10+ mil, that gives us plenty of room to work with.

Haven't paid much attention to slafkovsky, but the stats don't impress me much. The size will be nice though

Svechnikov would have been #1 in this draft. I had him at #1 in his draft. But Slafkovsky is not far off. He's #2 in this draft, and I've said before it's very close in my top 3 of Wright/Slafkovsky/Jiricek.

I still think it'd have been a conversation between Wright and Svech mainly because of C vs W. I'd go Svech as well but there'd have been a discussion.

For awhile you can keep them all. They will be somewhat staggered with their contracts . Still gives you time to see who you want to keep as a core and trade those who aren’t for assets to keep supplementing the core.
If done correctly , you should be able to have a damn good core going for a long time.

Hubs not going to pick Def
? Slavkovsky or Whight
Hubs GM Kent Hughes and scout team don't follow overall mood and ranking, he told just few moment after confirmation 1OA hubs are looking for:
- talent
- caracter
- leadership
it's a message

Wright caracter and leadership are hardly questionable when Slavkovsky confimed it at Olympics playing vs men.

Throw the stats out the window without the context.

Slafkovsky was posting video game numbers in the Finnish Junior Circuit. He was brought up to Liiga, but played in a bottom 6 role with scarce PP time -- also in a league where he did not speak the language of his teammates or coaches, also the first time playing against grown men.

Slafkovsky left the team for the Olympics, where he was the runaway best player in the entire tournament.

When he returned to Liiga, Slafkovsky was utilized more in a 2nd line role and his numbers jumped. His playoff point total is the 3rd highest for a draft-eligible in the Finnish pro league in the past 15 years, after only Kakko and Puljujarvi.

I'm obviously not a scout or pretend to know much about Slavkofsky, but from a quick glance ...

Looks like an 'okay' skater which isn't great given the level of competition.

Production wise he looks MUCH worse than someone like Kaako.

A lot of his 7 Olympic goals were tipped or looked a little flukey.

Am I missing much other than he's 6'4?
