Seriously. Why wouldn’t anyone want the best asset of the draft for free? Trade down, trade or package for a great established NHLer, or, shockingly, even just make the selection.

I think the lukewarm narrative surrounding Wright has gotten so exaggerated that he’s really getting sold short on his potential.

The same thing happened to Power last year.
Wright put up a 120 pt pace in the second half of the year and people are still shitting on him. Slafkovsky dominates the Bobby Butler Open and is the next big thing. Wouldn't cry about taking him at two but to think he would go over Wright is delusional

i don't see why we can't trade down 1-2 spots and pick up one of the d-men? depends on the add, but it could be really useful
How often does that happen in the NHL? Almost never, seems GM's never are willing to pay the price to trade up at the top of the draft. If this was next yr and we essentially had Michkov? COMPLETELY different story

Hubs deffinitly pick Slafkovsky. The winger is they prime need to complete line with Suzuki-Caufield , Slavkovsky is decided if they hold 1OA

Jiricek devils!!!!!!😄🙏
No, Habs will not risk the opportunity to get a Canadian franchise player for the next 15 years. They need a top 6 C and Wright is the universal consensus #1 pick. Montreal will not get cute.

I understand liking Wright a lot but let's not act as if dominating in the OLYMPICS as a 17 year old is some small feat.

Slaf is a very raw player to me. The idea that he makes an impact faster than Jiricek / Nemec is a bit silly. Look at the actual players not the position stereotype.

For a guy his size thatd be disappointing

I dont need him to set the league on fire but Id like a 6'4" 218 2nd overall to start Opening night

This is a guy who is a worse prospect than Kakko was and Kakko was the worst player in the league his rookie year. Doesn't mean he'll translate worse but absolutely no f***ing shot should he be in the league next year.

We’ll pick Slaf and I don’t want him. At 5 we’d end up with either Nemec or Jiricek who I’d much prefer
Still possible we just go Jiricek . Either just by takig him at 2 or trading down. It’s not 100% guaranteed we go Slaf. I’d say more like,y but nothig is certain.

I agree but how can you 100% gaurentee it unless you trade down 2 spots maximum and are ok with either /or.
yeah intention would have to be down to 4 lowest. i guess it depends on who our scouts like, and if they're all the same tier

i could see slaf, jiri, and nemec being the same tier

Ok so last stupid ignorant question for the night. The top 5 prospects - where do they each play if not in the NHL next season?

Height and weight have little to do with it. Processing the game at NHL speed is the issue. Most teens can't do it, regardless of how big.
Id imagine size matters greatly for an 18yo joining the NHL

If my 2nd overall was 5'11" id second guess them getting hurt. But 6'4" and a nice weight of 218? That kid can hang with the physicality, at least

Id be disappointed if he didnt play, we need to compete not baby the guy

The cost of doing so is slightly prohibitive for teams that are mostly in a rebuild. Just moving from 2 to 4 would likely cost a second round pick. When was the last time a team traded down from a top 3 pick? Has to have been a very, long time.
