Maybe the Flyers will want Cooley too. I guess that could open up a trade market?

I agree with your preference though. Rather have Jiricek/Nemec (depending on the team board).

At the end of the day, this team still needs everything. So no matter who they pick will have grounding in the "right" logic.
Flyers likely go Jiricek. Fits their MO.

Id imagine size matters greatly for an 18yo joining the NHL

If my 2nd overall was 5'11" id second guess them getting hurt. But 6'4" and a nice weight of 218? That kid can hang with the physicality, at least

Id be disappointed if he didnt play, we need to compete not baby the guy

Awful way to look at things.

For a guy his size thatd be disappointing

I dont need him to set the league on fire but Id like a 6'4" 218 2nd overall to start Opening night
The Devils have a glut of forwards next year, and aren't winning the 2023 cup, anyway. 2024 might be the year the Devils can truly compete. Better to let Slafkovsky develop one more year than to rush him, if he's the player the Devils pick.

yeah intention would have to be down to 4 lowest. i guess it depends on who our scouts like, and if they're all the same tier

i could see slaf, jiri, and nemec being the same tier
Possible but there has to be another team that values 1 of those players a lot. That is why I said earlier if the Devils had got #1 that was the pick most likely to be traded because it is highly likely someone would have valued Wright enough to give up assets to get him

They have literally nothing in the organization anywhere. If they stay at #5 Jiricek (or whichever top-tier leftover) makes sense, but I could see them looking to get that 1C this year. Of course, needing everything is a reason not to bother trading up and expending those assets, so yeah. More likely than not they stand pat.

My mind is going to explode here shortly. Due to wantig to read what you guys think plus read what the main boards think plus talk to my brother who is also a huge Devils fan. And is it normal for my eye to be bleeding out of the pupil? I have been visualizing a lotto win since this morning

Jiricek's stll outside the top 5 on Bob's list. I think he and Nemec end up 4/5 on the final list with the 3 F staying as the top 3. I could see them go Jiricek if he has a banger WC but I also think they see Slaf as exactly what we need and will go him instead.
Bob's list is great -- I certainly agree with you. However, I'm sure you'd agree that RD and big/physical players always go higher than we expect -- Jiricek is both. It will be fun to watch the WJC, for sure!

Both Jiricek and Slafkovsky offer precisely what the Devils need. This is a great, great day for the NJ organization and the fans.

They like their big bodied players. Kiricek best fits that (besides Slafkovsky who we are taking or will be gone regardless before they pick.)

I don't see any of the 3F's getting bumped out of the top 4 and Nemec's had a strong year. Those 2 could go either way. I'd be fine with Slaf if this was later on. I just don't think the upside will be high enough for a 2OA.

How do you feel he projects at the NHL level? What are your thoughts on him as someone who's very familiar with him?
I think he's got potential to be a fantastic player. He's much better on smaller NA ice than bigger EU ice. Probably the main reason why he was so dominant at the Olympics. Big guy. Not only very tall but also heavy. Almost unbeatable along the boards. Combination of soft hands + elite wrist shot makes him also a very good finisher. Fantastic kid with very good attitude, very popular here in Slovakia with a lot of followers, his interviews are gold.

Very pumped about the win. Hard decision to make but an awesome “problem” to have lol.
Now I am worrying about Fitz going off the board and gettimg cute. Drafts a goalie (none projected anywhere near the first round really) .
Im kidding but watch him trade down for a meh player and a meh draft pick. Jesse Pul from the Oilers amd their pick for ours…..

Ok so last stupid ignorant question for the night. The top 5 prospects - where do they each play if not in the NHL next season?

Wright - Kingston (OHL) - unfortunately can't play full time in AHL. Worst case, the team stretches out 9 game audition and then releases him back to juniors for WJC camp in early December.

Slafkovsky - I assume he'd go back to Finland? Don't know if the AHL would be an option for him or if his contract only has an NHL clause.

Cooley - University of Minnesota

Nemec - I assume back to his club in Slovakia?

Jiricek - I assume back to his club in Czechia?

Kemell - I assume back to his club in Finland?

Jesse Puljujarvi split his D+1 season between AHL/NHL. Mikko Rantanen played 9 games in 2015-16 then the rest of the season in the AHL. Mikael Granlund split his post-draft season between AHL/NHL.

I’d like to believe that NJ will do what they said they did last year. Literally wait until minutes before their pick to decide what to do. Meaning I hope they don’t have their mind made up yet and instead watch the WC and evaluate the shit out of the draft and who to take.
Im just hoping it’s one of Slafkovsky Jiricek amd Nemec. No to the others please.

I think both Nemec and Jiricek should be brought over to the AHL

Please tell me why we should pick Slafkovsky when Kakko went 45-22-16-38 +1 with TPS in Liiga as an 18 year old and Slafkovsky went 31-5-5-10 +1 as an 18 year old with TPS in Liiga? Kakko hasn't amounted to too much with the Rangers. Slafkovsky severely underperformed compared to Kakko!!!!
