Unless Severson doesn't figure into your long term plans, the bigger need is impact wingers.

Once we sign Severson long term we have no spot on our blueline open long term on the right side top 4 for like 6 years.

We still need to draft D, you always draft everywhere for depth, but if you are thinking about what gets the team over the hump, you aren't looking at the blueline

Hubs deffinitly pick Slafkovsky. The winger is they prome need, to complete line with Suzuki-Caufield , Slavkovsky is decided if they hold 1OA

Jiricek is devils!!!!!!😄🙏
Wouldn't be so quick to say that. Montreal might be really tempted to grab another high end C to have that 1-2 punch down the middle with Suzuki. Suzuki is good, but he projects more as a 2C, Wright might be the 1C they need. It's gonna be interesting.

Has to be Slafkovsky for me, he's the exact profile of winger we need. Obviously the two RHD are tempting, particularly Jiricek, but we just gave a huge contract to Dougie Hamilton to be our #1 RHD for the next 7 years.

Hughes & Hamilton will be the go to guys on our blueline for the foreseeable future and a supporting cast of Severson, Graves & Siegenthaler behind them isn't exactly dreadful. We definitely lack organizational depth at RHD, but I personally feel that our needs there are less exigent than the need to upgrade our wingers, specifically a talented top six winger with some size to complement our diminutive skilled players like Hughes & Bratt.

That's not to say we don't need another RHD eventually, but with Hamilton locked up and hopefully staying healthy I don't think we need another star RHD, we just need a steady middle pairing defence first RHD with some size & physicality.

That’s short term. Dr Evil will be 30 in two years. Presumably if you sign Severson also you start a Jiricek at RD3 and hope he climbs the depth chart to eclipse those two as they age. You are picking someone in this draft with hopefully a 12-15 year outlook not a three year outlook.

As a Slovak, please draft Slafkovsky. I dont wanna see him in Arizona. Poor kid would be probably on xanax after few months.
How do you feel he projects at the NHL level? What are your thoughts on him as someone who's very familiar with him?

How anti-climatic is that when we can't see the lottery balls bouncing live?

They took away so much of the anticipation.
It’s not like that though. You can’t tell who wins by watching the ball come out. It’s a mathematical bunch of crap amd isn’t simple as a ball with the devils logo on it popping out . It would be very anticlimactic , even more so than the card flip they do.

I agree what Severson's willing to do is a major factor. If he's willing to re-sign at an acceptable number I'm for Slafkovsky. My philosophy has moved from "BPA no matter what" to "If you build your team through the draft then build it right." I think how NFL teams draft can be informative here.

You'd have to be very certain Jiricek/Nemec is more valuable long term than Slafkovsky I think to take one of them if Severson will play in NJ the next 5 years (or more).
