2022 Draft Discussion (after the trade)

I ran a draft sim and ended up with these results:

19. Rutger McGroarty
51. Maveric Lamoureux
85. Cole Knuble
115. Cruz Lucius
147. Fabian Wagner
179. Sergei Murashov

Those first two picks would are exciting to me. McGroarty is a left-shot power forward, likened to Zach Hyman with a better shot. Lamoureux is a 6'7 right-shot defenseman who likes to move the puck and can use his size. Knuble would be a decent get in the third round too. He's kind of like if Blake Lizotte was a few inches taller.

Different convo for a different thread but yeah 100% this is why I was so sold on Vilardi, I never expected him to be a + skater, but he had always demonstrated to be a + thinker, puck on and off his stick in a second, I'm still bullish on his development getting used to NHL pace. Looked to start having 'it' at the end of the season. Those guys just need to put in more work--phsycally improving skating, mentally sharpening for the pro game.
I wonder if there's any research on what age different types of players start to produce. Some guys are obviously just a step above, but look at a guy like Kempe. Even if this past season was his absolute ceiling, it still took until he was 25 to really arrive. That's three more years for Vilardi and another six for Byfield.

I'd love to see data on this. Every once in a while you get guys like Hoffman, Madden, Rafalski, Chara, Buff, Wheeler, etc. who don't get really going until their mid-20s. It seems to me that bigger guys take this path more often, but not sure if it's true or not. Kempe is more like Hoffman, a faster guy who took a while to figure it out.

Very good chance we won't have the pick when the time comes. If we do with all of the talent available in the first round I bet we land a solid player. We nabbed Toby at 21(I think) and Kupari around the same pick and they both are doing great at this point in their careers (though Toby had his "sophomore" slump this past season). Whoever we pick if we have the pick which I am afraid that we won't will end up being the right kid for our team.

I have heard we are valuing toughness and character as top needs (who isn't). Heck, toughness, character and speed are what most teams value for late 1st rd picks regardless of the position as far as that goes. If that were all the we needed we could (and maybe should) take another long look at Wagner. Fast as shit through a goose and isn't afraid to get dirty. Not overly tough but doesn't shy away from contact. Maybe he is ready for another look. Meh, we are overloaded in our bottom 6 anyway. Trade the pick and add to our top 6 with a real sniper or finish the teardown and deal DD Kopi and Quickie and get it over with. I am mixed up on this as usual.

There's this: C Quinton Byfield (2020, 2nd, LAK) part IV

Just as an FYI, expect a couple articles to come out on Korchinski and Mintyukov to come out in a couple days.

Just watched some video on Marco Kasper. I know center is one of the last things the Kings need, but good lord is he fun to watch. He's like a bigger Nick Suzuki, where he has a strong combination of skill and physical play where he competes every shift, and his feet don't stop moving.

I forget who said it earlier but they mentioned Kasper would be a fan favorite and a divisional annoyance.

It would be the most Kings thing ever for like the 5 BPAs around us to be Cs

The Los Angeles Kings, we own all the center and RHD prospects. Looking for possible trades for scoring winger and LHD prospects.

The Athletic just did a 2 round mock, with picks being alternating by Pronman and an anonymous hockey ops source from a nhl team.

The source picked Miroshnichenko for the Kings at 19. And Pronman picked Lane Hutson at 51. As much as Miro’s health and Hutson’s 5’8” size worry me these are big swing for the fences picks. And I think I’m ok if that happens.

That would be as epic or amazing of a first two rounds we can have. Dream scenario here doubt it happens.

I've not been impressed with Hutson in the little video I watched (no pun intended). I would be disappointed if the Kings take him before the 4th round.

Yep absolutely, these are the kind of payoff picks the Kings need at this point. I'd say the margins depend on who else is available, like that mock I had above heh, but maybe that's just because I'm not as high on Hutson and feel like tons available there.

If LA had the choice to pick either Pavel Mintyukov or Denton Maytechuk, who do you take?

Minty all day.

Craig Button’s rankings are out.

Oh man, is he ever gonna get nuked for some of those

But it's pretty realistic with some of the major leaps, I don't hate it

Yeah, Russian forward, who has health problems and dman, who is about same size than Blake Lizotte. That is exactly what Kings needs.

Of all the people we talk to about the draft eligible players... I trust Sixten the most. He's watching (most of) these players in person. He's interviewing them. He knows them.

Also I just like Sixten... he's a really nice guy.

Thank you again for these.

Kasper has really moved up my list. I think his style compares a lot to Matt Boldy, who I had 6th overall on my list in 2019. I submitted an article on him for MM as well, and hopefully it will come out later this week.

My biggest critique to his game is he shows a bit of tunnel vision. Not that he lacks awareness, but I just didn't see him turn his head away from the puck once. I just don't see him occasionally scanning for danger.
